Borrowing an idea left over from the Carter Administration, New York City announced an odd/even gasoline rationing scheme. It was hoped that the scheme would cut four-hour wait times at gasoline pumps in half.
However, a substantial portion of drivers are unable to determine whether the numbers on their license plates are odd or even. My plate has four numbers on it, one driver observed. Which one should I use?
Another driver pointed out that I have a vanity plate. All of the writing on my plate is letters. Do I go on an odd day because it is odd to have a vanity plate? Or do I go on an even day because there are six letters?
An unsympathetic Mayor Michael Bloomberg chastised drivers for continuing to own gasoline-fueled vehicles. If these people drove electric-powered cars like President Obama has been trying to get them to do, they wouldnt be having this problem, he said.
It is unclear whether owners of electric vehicles would necessarily be as well off as the Mayor imagines. Hundreds of thousands of homes have been without electricity since Hurricane Sandy hit the City more than a week ago.
In related news, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) offices in the hurricane stricken regions of New York and New Jersey were closed due to bad weather. FEMA Administrator W. Craig Fugate explained Conditions were bad enough before this latest storm. Getting our employees to their desks under these circumstances is just not worth it. Once the weather emergency has passed we are confident that we can ramp up to a fully staff operation in a matter of just a few months.

What's the definition of 'insanity'?
Thanks for posting. Just sit back and reel them in. -)
I kept waiting for the sarcasm, but it appears that you were simply reporting on what’s going on.
These people are too stupid while voting.
I thought that barry’s (photo op) had this all fixed? Do you mean all the praise was for not?
This is actually true.
I think Looneyberg will keep rationing ,it will stop global warming LOL
Bloomberg is a very evil man. An evil man for an evil city I guess.
How stupid can these people be???
Every other car in line starting with the first one are the odd ones, and every other car in line starting with the second one are the even ones.
Surely they’ll figure that out.
How do you charge your electric car if you have no power? At least with a real car you can walk to a gas station to get fuel.
LOL, you had me.
Irony, is fascinating when I think that Carter’s incompetence is the reason I made more money and found the best business opportunity I ever had.. It was during the Gas shortage that I was stranded in lines at my favorite service station near my headquarters..
At least 3 times a week, I got in line and did my business reading, something that I seldom did in may hectic course of my daily routine.. That line stretched around the corner in front of a major hotel that had recently been shuttered in downtown Houston..
In my paperwork, was a note from a realtor that was touting this property, with a handwritten note, that I normally would not have read, or paid much attention to without so much time on my hands..
The result was I made an appointment to have this guy meet me on my next day I was to get gas.. Long story short.. HA!.. I ended up buying this landmark property at a price that would never happen if the economy wasn’t so destitute, and in a location that I would never have given so much thought to.. LOL
I actually did wonder about vanity plates that don't have numbers.
Are gas stations and the government doing that poor a job in informing people what "odd" and "even" numbers to use, or are they just really, really that stupid.
It’s satire, dude!
FEMA promises all snow will removed by June first. And as for odd/even plates, astute drivers have one of each.
LOL. They are supposed to use the last number on their plate. I wonder how those even numbered drivers feel in a month that has 31 days. Some drivers get to fill up on two consecutive days. 31st and 1st of the next.
