Fox News host Greg Gutfeld is out with a new book entitled The Joy of Hate: How to Triumph Over Whiners in the Age of Phony Outrage. In full and fair disclosure, I havent actually read it. But Im not going to let that stop me from weighing in.
Gutfeld is the host of Red Eye, Fox News rambunctious late night (actually overnight) talk show. Red Eye premiered in February 2007 to zero fanfare. There was a great deal of fanfare, however, for another show that debuted on Fox News that same month: The ½ Hour News Hour, which was supposed to be the conservative answer to The Daily Show. I had high hopes for Half Hour. Conservatives, of course, are constantly the butt of jokes from every corner of the popular culture. Finally, I thought, wed have one show that would turn the tables: conservatives would be ridiculing the many liberals who deserved it. I so wanted the show to be funny. And it so wasnt. I kept tuning in for several weeks, hoping against hope that the show would work out the kinks. I finally accepted that those werent the kinks; that was the show. The liberal monopoly on political humor was safe, at least for the time being.
Shortly after I gave up on Half Hour (and shortly before Roger Ailes followed suit), I accidentally stumbled upon Red Eye. After arriving home in the middle of the night from an overseas trip, I reflexively switched on the TV. I listened with half an ear while I unpacked, but the show quickly pulled me in. A panel with diverse opinions was discussing current issues, with the hosts conservative-to-libertarian views providing something of a center of gravity...

Gutfeld is also very good on “The Five” which airs at 2pm Eastern every week day. FOX replays the show at 8pm Eastern. He also appears on BOR’s show once a week.
Love his “sick” sense of humor.
Especially loved his “liquidating Twinkies” last week when Bob Beckel drank the liquidated Twinkies (in a blender with milk) and got sick and had to leave the show!
“which airs at 2pm Eastern”
It’s 5 at 5 which is 5 people at 5 pm... not 2 pm eastern
I’m a HUGE fan of Gutfeld. I only wish Red Eye were on earlier. Heck, then they could call it Pink Eye.
We're conservatives, we pay our own way.
Times are tough on a lot of us, but if you've got a job, really, $5 a month? You're going to miss that? How about turning off the lights when you leave the room? How about dropping the thermostat a degree while you're not at home? How about skipping that fancy pants coffee twice a month?
All we're asking for is $5 a month. Get out that wallet, input your Debit/Credit card #, set up a monthly and forget about it.
If this ham-n-egger can be a dollar a day guy, you can pony up $0.17 a day. Seventeen cents a day for all the time you spend on FR?
Cerainly, a bargain at twice the price, don't you agree?
You'll feel much better about your time on FR.
Anything that makes Bob Beckel sick can’t be all bad.
My favorite Gutfeld moments are when he tears down Dan Perino as some kind of monster (in a fun way). I remember one time he said
“Dana is like a cross between Grace Kelly and... Mothra.” and a huge image of a mutated moth pops up.
He’s one of the best unknown comedians out there. I mention his name and people say “who?”.
Red Eye would be better if it didn’t marginalize concerns regarding the Left’s homosexual agenda.
You are right I was wrong! It airs at 2PM on Pacific time, not Eastern! So it will be 5pm in East coast. I watch it at 11pm Pacific time which is like 2am Eastern perhaps.
You forgot “checking the air pressure in our tires”;)
Easy Hire rush Limbaugh to do the half Hour News Hour. He is an Expert at it
That’s funny - ‘Red Eye’ is on here at midnight, west coast. . . that’s when I see it.
I too stumbled upon it - being a nightowl.
Couldn’t figure it out, tuned in and out until it stuck.
Love Gutfeld.
Gutfeld will be here at the nearby Reagan Library this evening - Monday! Free lecture (reservations required) and then book signing.
Lecture was ‘sold out’ long ago - rats!
There may still be book signing reservations, tho - - -
Gutfeld is a joy to watch. I especially enjoy seeing him make Bob Beckel look almost as bad as Beckel, himself, manages to pull off every time he opens his mouth.
Took me a second to get that one, LOL! Good outta you!
Apologies in advance for taking liberty with your attendance on this thread, but I’m curious if anyone’s watching Tom Shillue on Red Eye this evening/morning?
Tom is the best sub for Gutfeld that I’ve watched.
No worries, Andy, you’re the premier Ombudsman.
Good subject tonight regarding Obama’s apparent disregard of the Constitution related to drone kills.
Red Eye is on past my bedtime. :-(
I am going to check when Redeye is on in CST and record it.
We saw Gutfeld at the near-by Reagan Library Monday night!
The Lecture Hall was filled to capacity - all ages, from far and near. He was delightful enough - once in a while he wanted to cut loose, but would hesitate, and say: ‘I’m at,’ or ‘this is the Reagan Library.’ Meaning, one doesn’t say such things here! Good for him - keep the raunchy stuff for ‘night clubs.’
Altho his book is peppered with nasties!
He began the night showing and telling us about the tiny unicorn in his hand that someone had moments before, given him!
He took a number of questions, which was good. Accurate write up in the Tues. county newspaper regarding his ‘lecture.’
Bought his book in the library Gift Shop, which one has to do in order to have it personally autographed.
The library is so skilled at crowds wanting autographs, they have it down to a science. Color-coded lines snaking around - and does it move! You are with the celebrity for a mere breath of time, and it’s over!
I quickly told him I was a senior, and a fan. And that the Perm. Marker they give these authors to sign with, fades over time. He said, without missing a beat, ‘I know, but what can we do?!’
Actually, without light hitting the page with the *scrawl,* it may not fade like that which is exposed to light.
I got Dennis Prager’s book and autograph there many months ago, and he signs with a pen. Not too surprised, because he has talked about his love of good pens!
I hung around the area, and was there when Gutfeld was done signing. He got up from the large desk, and the small crowd started asking quick questions, and he fielded a few, before he and a few people (some photogs there, of course)ambled off. I asked if he tells where he lives, and he got confused and said San Mateo, (CA), which is where he’s from originally.
It was a great evening.
Thanks for that story!
