Well, it’s clear that gun control/gun-free zones didn’t work in Newtown.
POTUS RR: libertarian-conservative
He said so.
In fact he said conservative means libertarian.....
(small l)
As Georgie Patton said, glad at least one sob in this cp knows wtf he’s talking about! (Chesty’s cousin y’know)

Bull, Reagan was no libertarian, he was conservative and republican.
You lied when you claimed that Reagan called himself a libertarian, he actually admonished them for their liberalism in that same 1975 interview with them.

You can’t just make things up to feed the left’s machine, called libertarianism.
If you look at the state of the GOP before and after Reagan, I think it’s fair to say that he really wasn’t a Republican either. He’d already left the Democrats. I think Reagan was a man who studied issues, talked to real Americans outside of politics, and made up his own mind. He avoided slavishly following any particular ideology.
"REAGAN: If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberalsif we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is. Now, I cant say that I will agree with all the things that the present group who call themselves Libertarians in the sense of a party say, because I think that like in any political movement there are shades, and there are libertarians who are almost over at the point of wanting no government at all or anarchy. I believe there are legitimate government functions. There is a legitimate need in an orderly society for some government to maintain freedom or we will have tyranny by individuals. The strongest man on the block will run the neighborhood. We have government to insure that we dont each one of us have to carry a club to defend ourselves. But again, I stand on my statement that I think that libertarianism and conservatism are travelling the same path."

Not quite calling himself a libertarian but not against them.
Thanx for responding!
I think most see that with which they are looking, and seldom beyond that.
In any case, I just avoid all the lessors of evil...as best I can.

This type of gun control would take too long and likely result in some deaths or injuries. No politician wants either. The only solution sought by a politician is one that can be done within the two years of a House Rep’s term, so they can take credit for “solving” the problem - sponsoring a law - in time for the next election cycle.
Mexico has gun control...and they have our own ATF/DOJ supplying a chosen cartel with guns.
Liberals are uncaged lunatics. For example, an environMENTAL professor in RI called for the murder of anyone who supports the second amendment because he is so furious about the murders in Conn.
There are a lot of new gun owners out there. Make sure that you pay $25 and join the NRA. You’ll keep up to date with what’s necessary to keep your new gun.
That interview was made during the 1975 campaigning for support, and it was with a libertarian/liberal magazine, with the matching audience, and even then Reagan gets pretty hard on them, it is why they steered away from some of his conservative points.
That single quote, from that single interview, during a campaign, it doesn’t amount to squat, yet it is clung to like an empty soda pop bottle to a drowning sailor.
The problem with the GOP is that it is becoming more libertarian as it moves left, Romney was a good example of that, his support for abortion and the homosexual agenda was extreme.
Amen, Gunny
Open carry of loaded firearms has been illegal in California since Governor Reagan banned it back in 1968. He signed the Mulford Act, saying “There is no reason on the street today a citizen should be carrying loaded weapons.”
In a letter to Rep. Scott Klug, a Wisconsin Republican, Reagan said the limitations proposed by the Assault Weapon Ban are absolutely necessary and that it must be passed.
So much for RR being a champion of the gun rights.
