I believe Hillary Clinton is the Horatio Gates of our time. Horatio Gates was a Major General during Revolutionary War. He was also a complete phony and if you ask me history has been far too kind to him. His most notable achievement was his victory at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777; however most scholars now agree that it was that actions of General Arnold and General Lincoln during that battle that ultimately led to the victory and that Gates contributions were minimal at best.
Gates, whom Arnold called ‘the greatest poltroon in the world and many other genteel qualifications,’ had contributed little to either battle. His plan to hold his position and fight from behind breastworks made tactical sense. But it smacked of extreme caution at a time when his army had a decisive edge in manpower and when aggression was the order of the day. ‘This gentleman [Gates] is a mere child of fortune,’ Major General Nathanael Greene wrote to Brigadier General Alexander McDougall the following January; ‘the foundation of all the Northern successes was laid long before his arrival there; and Arnold and Lincoln were the principal instruments in completing the work.’ Washington agreed and presented both men with elaborate sets of French epaulets as symbols of his thanks.
Nevertheless, Gates made his name with the victory. Congress authorized the minting of a gold medal in his honor. New Jersey governor William Livingston declared that Gates’s ‘glory is as yet unrivalled in the annals of America.’
You can read the rest here.
Major General Greene nailed it in his letter to General McDougall when he said Gates was a mere child of fortune. He was in the right place at the right time and could take credit for the victory in spite of his own lackluster performance. Three years later Gates true colors were revealed when he abandoned his army during the Battle of Camden. He lost almost his entire army of 2,000 men and the defeat was recorded as the worst suffered by continentals during the entire Revolutionary War. Congress relieved Gates of his command and he was forced to sit out the rest of the war. However instead of taking responsibility for his incompetence, he took the cowards way out by shifting the blame on his troops claiming they lacked training. His image was forever tarnished. Gates was a phony whose manufactured credentials caught up to him. His fortunes had finally run out.
Have you ever worked with or for someone who is a complete phony? Theres nothing remarkable about them except how they look on paper. Im sure most of you have crossed paths with people like this. These are the people who make sure all the right blocks are checked on their resume and they dont care who they step on to accomplish this goal. All their successes are manufactured on paper. They know the right people and how to use them to advance their own position; scheming from behind the scenes. Theyre the first to take credit for the work of other people and the first to throw them under the bus when things go bad. They shift blame on everyone and everything but themselves in order to deflect the focus off of them. They rightfully have earned the nickname Teflon because nothing ever sticks to them. They continue to fly under the radar never having their record challenged. They are do nothings riding the coattails of other peoples successes. This is who Horatio Gates was and who Hillary Clinton is today.
Ask yourself what Hillary has done in her political career that has been so remarkable. How has she strengthened the republic? Has she spearheaded some type of major reform? Honestly I cant think of one thing with exception of standing by her man during the Monica Lewinsky scandal in the 1990s. And even then she shifted the blame by claiming it was some vast rightwing conspiracy against her husband. Everything Hillary Clinton is today has been manufactured by the press or her allies in government. Shes an unremarkable person living in remarkable times. As Secretary of State she has been terrible. From hitting the reset button with Russia to the Arab Spring, Americas influence in the world has not only diminished under her tenure; but how we are viewed has greatly deteriorated. Shes a coward and like Horatio Gates she is running from her own incompetence.
Hillary Clintons unwillingness to take responsibility for the role she played in the security failures that led to the death of four Americans in Benghazi and her unwilling to acknowledge the role she played in misleading the American people in the aftermath is disgraceful. She has been hiding under her desk waiting for all this to blow over, allowing her subordinates to take the blame for actions that clearly fall under the purview of her office. And like Horatio Gates, I have no use for people like this. Theyre phony little cowards wearing shoes that are way too big for their character. Its time for Hillary to be held accountable for her failures. She can’t be allowed to use her failed tenure as Secretary of State to check another block in terms of foreign policy experience for a 2016 run. No more giving this fake a free pass.
If you were a sports team owner and your team just went through its worst season ever, would you fire the head coach or all of his/her assistant coaches? If you were smart you would fire the head coach, because only then could the failed losing philosophy be changed. Firing the assistant coaches and leaving the head coach in charge is not the way it works in the real world. But whoever said Washington lives in the real world. Acts that we view as cowardly and despicable in our reality are accepted practices in Washington these days. What Hillary is doing is no different than what Horatio Gates did when he abandoned his army during the Battle of Camden. She has abandoned her people and is allowing them to be thrown under the bus to save her legacy. She needs to be held to the higher standards we hold ourselves to in our own communities. And yes Benghazi should tarnish her image forever. Would someone in Washington please do the right thing? Hillary Clinton is indeed the Horatio Gates of our time and its time to hold her accountable just as we held Gates accountable.
Will Hillary meat her Camden?
Hillary is just a Shill. She’s out there to direct attention away from The Grifter. And Obama is also a Shill, not The Grifter.
Interesting comparison.
I would only add that our leaders in DC in both parties have done little to justify the positions they hold.
Just for grins I did a FR search by title on “clinton.”
Naturally it came back with no results.
Obviously this is not correct.
“Granny” Gates?
IS THAT A PICTURE OF HITLARY OR THE OTHER GUY?
A very well written piece. This has cheered me up markedly. Well done, Carey.
No.
Hillary is just another gold digger who attached herself to the right man, for her.
Obumbler is the Gates of our time.
A total fake.
Who knew Horatio Gates was a power-hungry closeted lesbian?
Does anyone remember Craig Livingstone? If he isn’t dead yet, he will be if Hillary decides to run for President.
History shows us that, if the bullet that hit Benedict Arnold at Saratoga either cut an artery or was 18 inches higher, we’d have towns, cities, and States named after him.
Hillary Clinton is the Babs Johnson of our time.
I have asked so many people this question: “what has Hillary Clinton accomplished - what problems has she solved, what great deals has she made for the USA, what has she done other than travel at our expense?” So far I have yet to get a good answer from anyone - including my VERY liberal relatives I asked several days ago.
However, I got one feeble attempt at an answer “what did Condi Rice do?”
I actually don’t have an answer to that either. So I guess our SOS is just a reward for being a loyal party member. Pathetic. At least Condi bewitched Col. Daffy of Libya - that must of been worth something.
So who is the ‘real’ Grifter then???
ah yes the illiterate thug who had over 900 FBI files for her majesty’s use
