MSNBC Guest Draws Parallel Between Gun Owners and Child Molesters
Free Beacon ^ | 1/3/13 | Washington Free Beacon Staff

Former New York City mayoral candidate Mark Green drew a parallel between gun owners and child molesters Thursday evening on MSNBC. Green suggested that residing near gun owners and residing near child molesters may pose comparable risks, and thus there should be a registry for both:

MARK GREEN: Well it is a neighbor’s interest, even if a law-abiding person has a person, has a permit, has a gun, Adam Lanza stole a gun from his mother who he of course killed. I’m a lawyer and believe in the right to privacy. This is in the public domain. The information is publicly filed. Of course, the newspaper had a right to publish public information. The question is was it right as a matter of judgment for them to do that. If we have a Megan’s Law, and I think everybody might agree, that if you’re a convicted child molester, I think everybody might want to know that because they’re in their home safe, but they may come out. Same thing with guns. There may be people who think the more concealed weapons, the better, fine – live in Texas and Florida.

INCONVENIENT FACT: According to no less an authority than the peer-reviewed Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, countries with stringent gun control laws have higher murder and suicide rates than those without.

DOCUMENTATION: “Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder and Suicide?” A Review of International and Some Domestic Evidence by Don B. Kates and Gary Mauser, Volume 30, Number 2 of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, pages 649-694. (To download a PDF copy of the journal article, simply Google the title. It is available on the web free of charge.)

QUOTE FROM ARTICLE: “If you are surprised by our findings, so are we. We did not begin this research with any intent to “exonerate” handguns, but there it is — a negative finding, to be sure, but a negative finding is nevertheless a positive contribution. It directs us where not to aim public health resources.”

INDIRECTION: The trick hoplophobes always use is to say that America has higher gun-murder rates than other countries, but many of those “murders” are criminals killed in the act of committing violent crimes. Compare absolute murder rates, and the result is “more guns, less murder.” (Source: GunFacts.info);

SECOND INCONVENIENT FACT: According to DOJ crime statistics, guns are used by US citizens 2.5 million times per year to prevent violent crimes like rape, robbery, home-invasion and carjacking, 99% of the time without a shot being fired. (Source: GunFacts.info)

THIRD INCONVENIENT FACT: “Assault weapons” (AKA semiautomatic rifles) are used in less than 1% of gun crimes. (Source: GunFacts.info)

QUESTION: If gun-free zones make people safe, then why don’t we declare the immediate vicinity of the President and Vice-President to be gun-free zones and send the Secret Service home? Or are gun-free zones good enough for our kids, but not good enough for our overlords?

METAPHOR: America has more private gun ownership than most other countries, so naturally there are more gun murders. America also has more hospitals than most other countries, so naturally we have more people dying in hospitals. Does that mean we should outlaw hospitals?

He's a lawyer. He's trained to be incoherent.

I think freepers should take an hour and watch Glenn Beck’s show on gun violence. The person he interviewed showed what the argument (they call it “conversation” now) is really about. Probably one of the best shows and interviews he has had in a long time.

Mark Green is the perennial failed politician that even the libtards don’t like. I thought he had died or maybe moved under a bridge somewhere. My God. He’s still around?

Its incoherent because the objective is to insult, not make sense.

All progressives have a primative need to end-run their own intellects and publicly emote.

Substitute the words “gun owners”, for “jews”, and we are back in 1939. And there’s a story like this every day. I think i might need an assault rifle for the same reasons Anne Frank did. She didn’t have one, i do.

The brain dead Mark Green is back! The farthest he got in city government was “consumer advocate”. His claim to fame, if I remember correctly, was his war against cold cereal.

The left seems to always be obsessed with sex, rape, and child molestation..the left truly are mentally ill..the same ones who trash the 2nd Amendment have NO problem having their buildings guarded with armed guards..Hey MSNBC, since you guys hate guns so much, get rid of those armed guards of yours

We’re a pretty gun heavy state here in Michigan and the one thing they never talk about is the fact that the long guns aren’t registered anywhere.

I was wondering if it was the same jughead also. I remember he did run for something. He's very short on intelligence.

The difference is that guns are NOT allowed but child molesters are teaching the kids.
