New York Daily Sun ^ | 14/01/13 | Dick McDonald

Today the people of the United States of America have an opportunity to make the world a better place. Rather than wasting time compromising the political ideologies of progressives and conservatives, Americans could use that time to employ modern economic and scientific advancements to eradicate poverty. The USA could lead the world into a new era where prosperity is the rule rather than the exception.

It's simple. The demand for free stuff is exponential, the supply is not.

But Lefties don't believe in math.

Just the kind of "science" that gives them the answer they want.

The blog led to http://www.theusaplan.com/ which isn’t a bad idea.

The deception to get people to the other web site, not such a good idea.

Just announce that the “poverty line” is now $5.00 per month. Presto! Everyone is living above the new poverty line and therefore no longer poor.

This is so simple I surprised Zero hasn’t thought of it yet...or even V.P. Crazy Joe.

As long as there are lazy shiftless people there will be poverty...

Exactly - is the author suggesting that these people be eradicated as the only way to get rid of poverty? No poor people = no poverty...

I have learned by experience that you CANNOT help some people. No matter how much you try to help, they ALWAYS make bad choices and do stupid things. So utopian marxist morons should not be taking MY money to try do something that is impossible . . . just to make themselves feel good . . . makes me feel terrible!!!

they will just redefine “poverty”. the reformer’s problem isn’t truly impoverished people. their problem is the difference in lifestyles. the problem is that there are comfortable people.

No matter HOW much money is given to poor people, they will still be poor. It’s a self imposed mind set.

There are undoubtedly millions of Americans who have played by the rules, worked hard their whole lives, but unfortunately have stayed "poor" compared to other Americans.

However, many of the poor are people who will never be able to make ends meet and who would quickly fritter away any amount of money given to them.

Why now? Why wasn’t last year, or last decade, the time to eradicate poverty?

“That means the government would have to grab another 15.3% tax to pay for current spending...”

You don’t understand the Laffer Curve. Cutting taxes 15.3% will cause a net increase in tax revenue due to increased economic activity. As just one example, many seniors would achieve higher investment income which would cause their SS benefits to be taxed, thus reducing net SS expenditures.

Chile did this 20 years ago and it has been a spectacular success. But hey, why not tax ourselves to prosperity instead, despite centuries of evidence that it can never work?

The USA could lead the world into a new era where prosperity is the rule rather than the exception.
That might be theoretically possible - if “poverty” were not defined upward arbitrarily by journalists and the acolytes whom the journalists call “liberal,” or “moderate,” or “progressive.” But as it is, “poverty” is defined by the “Wolf!” criers, and as such “poverty” can never be eliminated - or even reduced.
