The Los Angeles Police Department ceased to be an active force for justice on March 4, 1991, when George Holliday turned over his amateur video of Rodney King’s arrest to the Los Angeles TV station KTLA.
With tape in hand, the media began what the late Christopher Dorner might call a surge of “unconventional and asymmetrical warfare” against the LAPD and police departments everywhere.
As in the Trayvon Martin case, the media edited and presented the tape to reinforce its favorite template: evil white racists oppress innocent minority. I say “asymmetrical” because in the King case, unlike the Martin case, citizen journalists lacked the means to fight back.
In 1991, there was no viable Internet, no social media, no Fox News. The mainstream media effectively controlled all visual imagery. The television viewer never got to see or hear the evidence that persuaded a Ventura jury to acquit three of the cops on trial and fail to convict a fourth.
“Viewed from outside the trial,” said the first President Bush in arguably his lowest moment as president, “it was hard to understand how the verdict could possibly square with the video.” The Bush view prevailed.
Prompted by horrific post-verdict riots, the officers were tried again in a federal court, double jeopardy in everything but name only. Among the scores of baton blows administered to subdue King, the sentencing judge decided that the final six crossed the line to illegality and thus sent two of the cops to federal prison for “only” 30 months.
The incident created two basic narratives, both of them harmful to the black community. The one that the cops received was “why bother?” Why be pro-active, why be aggressive, why try hard to protect the community if six extra baton strikes can cost you your job...

I suspect there continue to be plenty of people out there who do not believe that condition can exist ~ eventually, though, they will need to give up crazy old Uncle Bill who otherwise lives padlocked in an upstairs room ~ Dorner is special in only one way ~ two government agencies gave him up to just wander about the public highways killing people.
I hope all here cheering his demise (which may well be warranted, if not constitutional), realize that the public (enough of them anyway) will believe that virtually anyone is a violent paranoid schizophrenic nutcase bent on cannibalism and molesting family pets if that is what the media present, thus free to be hunted down and terminated without due process at any time, by popular acclaim.
Anyone here have first-hand knowledge of his actions? Or is everyone taking the media's word for it?

There have been dead bodies all over the country. How do you know who made them dead? Were you a witness?
i don’t need to be ~ and, in general, dead bodies get disposed of in several ways all of which are reported. http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/profiles-believed-killed-la-policeman-18492253 provides a brief bio on all the victims. I trust there are death certificates and grieving friends and family. Only a nut case would argue that none of these people existed or that they aren’t really dead.
The ONLY thing we know for a fact is the 49+ bullet strikes in a blue Toyota Tundra.
For a long time now, I am skeptical of everything in the media and any press release from any government entity. I trust neither.

He was probably like that in his military service as well.
I saw an article that indicated that Dorner was a student at Vance AFB in the early 2000s. Vance is a pilot training base, yet I did not see that Dorner had completed the course and gotten his wings. Perhaps this was the first blow - considering that he (and a lot of Holder’s people) seem to take their personal failures as racism.
Of course, I could be wrong...and perhaps he was indeed wronged. But, I really, really doubt it.
If you want to take ABC's word for what happened, that's up to you. In doing so, you would appoint them the arbiter of evidence, judge, and jury.
Frankly, in my contact with the media, they seldom deserve a fraction of your trust.
That is why we have courts, and even they are not infallible.
Beyond that, there are eyewitnesses ~ they identified this puke ~ he even identified himself when he called Mr. Kwan to taunt him about having murdered his daughter and her fiance.
You want to doubt Mr. Kwan?
I too thought back to Rodney King. It seems like the LA police are always on trial. I've seen at least two or three movies that have faulted them. Although perhaps one or two TV series have extolled them. Where is the truth?

An opinion, but it rings true. How could it be otherwise in LA government today?
I also thought of the Rodney King case, and I agree with Cashill’s recounting of events.
I remember video from the post trial riots. A police car turns on its siren, approaches an intersection filled with mayhem and violence, some directed at the police, slows, then drives on through.
Where is police protection when you need it? The press, rioters, and many politicians, were anti-cop after the police subdued Rodney King. What should a couple of policemen have done at that intersection? Subdue someone? Would they have be supported if they had stopped and shot a rioter? Best to drive on through. The only acceptable show of force was the siren, and that probably deterred no one.
The Dorner case was brought to my attention by a young liberal at a chess site. His version was so over the top, it reminded me of John Kerry and the Vietnam veterans against the war.
From his writings, it seems that Dorner loved liberals. And it seems that cop killer Dorner is now a liberal cause. Once again liberals are inconsistent. The same libs who love to "rebel against authority" (the cops), want to disarm the populace, assured that we can trust government. Why not just say:
"I live in LA. I hate the LAPD; they are corrupt, dangerous, and abusive. No one should be armed but the LAPD."
I wonder who Reginald Denny will spawn?
