Landsat 5 TM was used as a tool to model Anopheles mosquito densities on heterogeneous land cover. In this study, mosquito density data was divided into 5 classes; absence, low, moderate, high, and very high densities. Land cover was classified into 8 types.
Stagnant water, wetland, and paddy land cover types are larva habitat. Forest, cropland, orchard, and grassland land cover types are adult habitat. Built-up land is non habitat. Multiple linear regression and discriminant analysis were selected to identify the relationship between mosquito densities and land cover types..............

Why should this be? One thought has been that there is a disease occurring in wetter areas that affects people's political thinking. If you get bit by a flying bug with that virus then you turn into a Democrat, otherwise you are naturally a Republican.
So, i went looking to see if anyone had done a study along that line and here it is ~ for Thailand, using a landsat satellite to provide sufficient detail so that you can relate mosquito densities to distance from various sorts of watercourses given different land types, e.g. forest, field, desert, swamp, etc.
It's possible that America's political landscape is literally divided into Red and Blue areas by biting insects, and quite possibly by our efforts to contain them. Mosquito abatement activities take place most vigorously in urban areas according to one of the studies referenced in this piece about landsat observatio, 'cause that's where the mosquitos are, and that's where the Democrats and Liberals are ~ cheek to jowl ~ mosquito bite to mosquito bite ~ day after grueling day.
Again, my thesis is that political preferences may be connected to the occurrence of biting insections (most likely mosquitos) and this correlation can be demonstrated by using landsat satellite technology to determine land/soil types, vegetation, presence of water, and existence of urbanization. Several studies have been done showing proof of concept.
If so, the best way to advance the interests of Conservatives and Republicans is to eradicate biting insects ~ AT ANY COST!
Hmmm, or people are naturally born Democrats, and the continual biting never lets them fully mature into Conservatives.

However, in 1962, Silent Spring by American biologist Rachel Carson was published, the use of DDT was suppressed and almost like clockwork we elected LBJ who instituted a socialist regime throughout the country. By 1972 DDT was BANNED, and the hapless Jimmy Carter and his band of clowns took over the government.
Fortunately we've come up with other ways to eradicate mosquitos but many leftists reject the idea of pumping more chemicals into the environment (their phrase not mine) so efforts falter and people in those areas ~ precisely the Blue State 'blue county' areas ~ continue to get bit by mosquitos.

However, I’m on the equator and malaria, as well as dengue fever, are endemic here. DDT would help. But...
It's no koinkydink that Thailand paid for this study ~ most of that country is a swamp ~ or barely contained river. The footnotes are worth the read ~ there are some studies that address specific questions like how far away from the main watercourses or ponds do you find the most mosquitos.
