Michelle Obamas appearance at the Oscars surprised many viewers, some were more puzzled ny the members of the military that stood behind her as she announced the award for Best Picture.
The First Lady was multi-tasking Sunday night, hosting the black tie 2013 Governor's Dinner at the White House, while also announcing the Academy Award to a crowd of A-listers in Los Angeles, plus a viewing audience in the hundreds of millions.
But Obama made no mention of the group surrounding her as she spoke of this years influential films, and critics slammed the appearance, saying she used the military personnel as props.
So...today you young men and women of the US military are to stand looking interested whilst Michelle Obama presents Best Picture #Ofcourse! one user posted on Twitter.
Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin tweeted a similar sentiment: Why was Michelle O at the Oscars and why did she use service personnel as props but not thank the military?
Indeed, in her brief speech about the best picture award, Obama failed to make mention of the men and women standing behind her, leaving many wondering what they were doing there....

Look at the bright side — at least this time they weren’t Russian troops.
Acting like an actual President and First Lady?
The resident does the same damn thing so why complain? What I hate is when they use our military people as wallpaper, because these military people probably can’t refuse without putting their careers at risk.
the civilians on the other hand if they wish to be used so be it.
There is talk of a billionaire having the Chinese build a replica of the Titanic. Instead of using James Cameron... they are using Xeroxes of Michelle Obama’s a$$.
I don’t fault the servicemembers for appearing behind the first lady, they were likely offered the opportunity on a volunteer basis, already had a mess dress uniform due to their assignment to the white house, and got to be on national tv (and probably got the next day off for ‘recovery’). White house duty also has to be a competitive assignment, so the people there want to be there in the first place and they knew who was CiC when they signed up.
The article seems to say that they were already there for a governor’s conference dinner. Lower-ranking officers don’t always have a mess dress unless assigned to the White House, an embassy, large headquarters (NATO, Pentagon, CINCPAC, etc.) or deal. with allies.
That was hysterical...thanks for posting!
Who do you think all those people in the chairs are? They don’t work for Subway.
I wonder if she could be charged with kidnapping and human trafficking? I am sure many of them were held against their wills.
You should catch her on Hannity later tonight.
All is explained!
I just hope the "wallpaper troops" had a good time (as long as they were there, it was probably more fun than other duties they could have pulled) AND, I also hope FLOTUS didn't get too dressed up for her "road trip" to Louisiana today...promoting "Let's Move!" is one thing, but "dressing up", military people, and a large entourage on Air Force 2 (or whatever her plane is) would be be a bit much, considering the havoc we're about to face from the hamsters of sequestration!
( / sarcasm, and don't miss the Will article)
How people are fooled by these Commies boggles my mind.
In a word...NO.
In a few more words, the good news is, I think people on all sides of the aisle are starting to see cracks in the facade of this whole "big government" gang.

She had the military there so she could be like all other dictators’ wives.
I believe the Marine Captain on the left in the picture is wearing a (mess dress?) uniform typically worn by field grade and above. Possibly he’s either assigned to the White House, or nearby (Marine Barracks, 8th & I). Probably the same for the rest of the “photo op” pogues.
Thirty years ago, it was unheard of for a Marine Captain to own this uniform - big bucks!
At the risk of going out on a limb, has anyone besides me contemplated that this was possibly a staged White House gay event? The Marine Captain just looks too “happy.”
