How Will They Confiscate Your Guns?
Keep And Bear Arms ^ | July 21, 2000 | John A. Sutter

For decades I have heard gun owners claim that the government would never be able to confiscate our firearms because the government would lose too many men. The implication being, of course, that gun owners would actively resist confiscation, even to the point of shooting back. But I believe this thinking is outdated and doesn’t align very well with reality. But before you tell me how big your honor guard in Hell will be when that day comes, let’s think about how the government could really do it.

Suppose, for the sake of argument, the government bans all civilian possession of firearms at the end of this month. Congress passes a total ban and the President cuts his own re-election throat by signing it. Gun owners get some grace period to turn them in, even beyond the deadline, without being charged with a crime. If we use Australia and Britain as examples there will still be a significant number of firearms that are not turned in. Some estimates put the Australian turn-in at less than 25% and the British faired only about 28%. But Australians and the British have long been used to obeying almost every gun control law. Not so the Americans. When laws are passed that we don’t like, we bite. We scratch. We vote. So here we sit after the guns have been collected and the amnesties have run out. Now what? Send out the personnel carriers, swat and shock troops to seize the guns from those militia “terrorists” who refused to turn them in? Don’t be silly.

The government has lots of records about you. If you purchased a firearm since 1968, chances are that they have some record of it somewhere....

I predict the ability to manufacture firearms via advanced small footprint manufacturing techniques will quickly overwhelm the ability of law enforcement to confiscate them.

The war on guns will be less effective than the war on drugs.

The well known gangs of confiscators will never be able to appear in public without massive protection brigades. If they don’t know that, a few whistling brass messengers would quickly, and decisively, inform them.

How Will They Confiscate Your Guns?

Well, one way is to claim you said something that wasn’t very nice. Then they get you arrested and asked to surrender your guns. If you don’t, bail will be set very high and your children will be without you while you sit in jail. If you’re a single parent they’ll have to go to foster care...unless you surrender the guns.

“It would break the covenant of “governing by the consent of the governed”. At that point, all bets are off.”

That has happened many times over the years. It happened the very first time that the government made laws about the restriction of ownership, background checks and registration of weapons. There has been no uprising. Why would there be an uprising if the government enacts more gun legislation?

You would have an easier time impoverishing the people by wrecking the economy and then having gun buy back programs because people need the spare cash.

There won't be an uprising.

Back when there was an uprising, the citizens didn't wait for the govt agents to come to individual doorsteps. The mere presence of the forces of the king on American soil, was enough.

Paul Revere didn't say "molon labe, come to my house and I'll put up one hell of a fight."

The enemy is on American soil. What do we do? Pay whatever is demanded. Pay their salaries. Pay for their vacations. Pay your licenses and registrations and health insurance and whatever else they tell you to pay for.

I agree. They would probably say something like, “The US government will pay $100.00 for tips of people you know who own guns.”

Half of America is on the dole, more than half are living on income provided by the government (welfare, SS, SSI). Nearly everyone with children is getting free babysitting (public “education”) despite the damage it does to the child.

Half of America financially supports the government, despite the fact that the government has sanctioned the killing of some fifty million infants.

Oh but let ‘em come for our guns and we’ll show them a thing or two.

Don’t assume LEOs will confiscate your guns without compunction. Many LEOs will probably be on your side and refuse to confiscate them. In fact they may turn on their masters...: )

I think that most LEO's in large cities are dyed-in-the-wool RAT bastard demoRATs and union thugs, who will jump at the chance to enforce gun confiscation against conservative, patriotic Americans. Even in my small home town of approx 15,000, and home to a WI state university, I wouldn't trust the LEO's as far as I could throw the tubby bastards. Sheriff depts I view as being mostly on our side... police departments I view as being mostly liberal demoRATs & unions, and dead set against gun ownership & the 2nd Amendment.

It’s just another side of the coin. The situation is not all doom and gloom although the MSM would like us to think it is and get us to give up. I post that not to suggest to anyone to think the opposite, that we’ve got it won, but to remind people that the true measure of American sentiment towards firearms and the 2nd Amendment is not what we see in the press. But we should fight like heck and even take the counteroffensive. Defense sucks! :-)

I did my part to help him when I found him a used but not fired BushMaster AR-15 without a FFL check, just the way he wanted it.

Sounds great. I didn’t think you meant that it was illegal. Pretty soon it may all be illegal. The CO senate just voted to make all of my 30 rd mags illegal, private transfers (even loaning a gun to a friend or family member) and more. If I’m going to be a felon maybe I’ll keep my eyes open for an RPG.
