Gay Kryptonite
Taki's Magazine ^ | March 12, 2013 | Kathy Shaidle

Gay activists insist that “faggot” comes from the word for the kindling beneath the feet of heretical homosexuals. That’s a lie.

But while the word “faggot” doesn’t come from “a bundle of sticks,” the word “fascist” does.

Funny, that.

Behold: In the name of “truth, justice and the American way,” a renowned science-fiction writer has just been condemned to (professional) death for expressing his views on homosexuality in a tiny Mormon magazine almost twenty-five years ago.

Orson Scott Card wrote the beloved 1985 Hugo and Nebula Award-winning novel Ender’s Game“ about the innocence of a child winning out over war and hatred,” an “irony” which seems to be making his “homophobia” all the more heartbreaking to his lifelong (liberal) fans.

So what did Card say?

Back in 1990—and again in 2004—he objected to the legalization of sodomy and “gay marriage” by judicial fiat. If unelected judges can nullify thousands of years of civil and religious law in a trice, he asked, what else will our robed rulers force us to accept? Will ordinary people someday rise up against this tyrannical system?

“These spindly beta males all secretly see themselves as righteous macho caped crusaders, rescuing the world whether it needs it or not.”

That candid, decades-long (and, some would say, perfectly sound) opposition to “gay marriage” in particular and top-down social engineering in general suddenly rendered Card persona non grata when DC Comics hired him to write a Superman comic last month.......

Card’s essays on this were posted on ornery.org and may still be there. Very thoughtful and reasoned, he’s no hater.

The definitions I have read include a bundle of sticks or twigs or a cigarette.

“These spindly beta males all secretly see themselves as righteous macho caped crusaders, rescuing the world whether it needs it or not.”

Therein lies the fundamental nature of many modern problems.

Card is a talented writer. DC Comics need his talent far more than he needs them. If they want to p*ss away an opportunity to avoid offending the pink mafia, he can find far better gigs than they can offer . . . or create his own.

You're right. His opinion essays are very reasoned. I wonder if he even considers himself a Democrat anymore.

There is an affablity or the likeness to that in Card and Foster that I relate to. Jordan is all right. But he comes off more as trying too hard. Just my thought. Also digged Jack Chalker. Not that I know anything. Stephen R. Donaldson. Boxed sets.

“I wonder if he even considers himself a Democrat anymore. “

I spoke with him a year, year and a half ago. He’s still a Democrat.

When aliens come to earth after we annihilate ourselves for a bit of archeology, there will be copies of Enders Game found as well as refrences to OSC in whatever records remain. His work is pervasive. What the will not find are any such references to the DC people/management/writers/artists of today.

I’d say OSC wins in a walk.

Around 2000 I was at the Statue of Liberty and there was a girl of about 7 wearing a baseball cap that said FAG on it.

How odd, I thought. Then I heard her family speaking German.

Is this the same company?

Yes it does. A fact made clear in the miltary description of bundles of sticks and brushwood to fill trenches/moats as "fascines".

Ftom this the uses was extended to a bundle of anything, such as minced meat.

However use of "faggot" ro refer to homosexualists only dates from USAian usage in the early 20th Century. Which is too late to assert a Mediæval connexion.

Faggots are also a small bunch of sticks. Just look at Wikipedia and you will see it comes from middle English - and has nothing whatsoever to do with gays. More oppression fantasties from the gay left...

A review of Cart’s essays would reveal his condemnation of legislating from the bench, not the content of the legislation.

Card has written some excellent stuff, such as Ender and the Alvin Maker series.

But then he also wrote a multi-book retelling of the Book of Mormon as SF, which unless (possibly) you are Mormon is essentially unreadable. IMO, of course.
