Military’s same-sex couples seek overturn of DOMA

The death certificate read “single,” even though the fallen soldier was married.

When it came time to inform the next of kin, casualty officers did not go to the widow’s door in North Carolina, nor did she receive the flag that draped the casket of her beloved, a 29-year-old National Guard member killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan.

Because federal law defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman, the military did not recognize the relationship of Army Sgt. Donna R. Johnson and Tracy Dice Johnson at all, rendering Johnson ineligible for the most basic survivor benefits, from return of the wedding ring recovered from the body to a monthly indemnity payment of $1,215.

“You cannot imagine the pain, to actually be shut out,” said Dice Johnson, an Army staff sergeant....

So "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" really meant what it said? And wasn't it just eliminated last year? There's no way their commanders and first sergeants wouldn't have known all about this relationship. So the military has been gay for years and Mr. Obama just made it official?

This was the ONLY reason the homosexuals demanded to be allowed to “serve their country” in the military. They wanted to destroy ALL OF AMERICA’S GREAT INSTITUTIONS. PERIOD!

It is amazing that a small group of people what to change:

thousands upon thousands of years of history

tradition

and all of the biology of reproduction

Why?

because they want money

they do not want to "pay their fair share" (taxes)

and the big one - 'boo hoo hoo' their feelings are hurt.

Typical liberal bravo sierra...the dead soldier had the option of naming her “partner” as beneficiary of her servicemember’s group life insurance (SGLI), which provides a death payment of $400,000. That is typically the largest benefit any military member can leave to a loved one, and there are no limitations on who can receive it. If the “partner” didn’t receive the soldier’s SGLI money, it wasn’t much of a marriage by any standard. However, I’m guessing the partner has collected the SGLI payment and wants the other benefits as well, such as health care and access to base facilities.

Just got the memo last week that same sex couples can get military legal counsel. They just have to “prove” that they are married. DOMA is not being honored.
