FBI Agents Interviewed Chicago Mobster Jimmy Allegretti A Week After Kennedy Assassination

G-men interviewed Chicago mobster Jimmy "the Monk" Allegretti only a week after the November 22, 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy in order to determine whether he had any connections to Jack Ruby who on November 24 had killed supposed assassin Lee Harvey Oswald according to the recently released FBI file on Allegretti.

Allegretti was the Rush Street crew boss who ran the vice rackets -- gay bars, strip clubs, whore houses, gambling dens -- from the mid-1940s to the mid-1960s on the Near North Side for Chicago Outfit underboss Ross Prio, and in the FBI interview he denied knowing Ruby although with typical wise guy attitude "indicated that he was not sure whether he would be willing to discuss him if he would have any information concerning this man."

According to this same report the FBI also suspected gay bar operator Nate Zuckerman as an Allegretti associate, and interviewed either him or an employee – the name is redacted – at the Front Page Lounge at Rush and Grand Streets who similarly disclaimed knowing Ruby.

The FBI interview with Allegretti confirms that it was interested in a possible mob connection to the Kennedy assassination from the very beginning.

I'm a bit of a JFK assassination buff, but I'm not aware of
such a release. Though there is certainly a boatload of
papers/files that have yet to be made public.

It's pretty easy to go off into wild "Col. Mustard with a wrench" who-dunnit speculations and if I had THE ANSWER I'd wite a book, heh. But my take is that there was a conspiracy involved - keeping in mind a conspiracy only requires two people conspiring to commit some act. I believe LHO was involved - but in which way and who with, I don't know. I believe it's certainly possible he could have been set up as a fall guy. But by whom, I'm not clear (my guess would be by the intelligence community),

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the series “The Men Who Killed Kennedy” on the History Channel - some of it is somewhat worthless in my view (e.g. “LHO’s girlfriend”), but there’s also a lot of solid stuff to chew on. It’s on YouTube - this episode is “The Patsy”.

Kind of a circuitous route IMO; Bobby Kennedy was going after the Mob, he was a direct thorn in their side.
