Moscow Radio's Tim Kirby Says the American Dream Is Better Found in Russia

MOSCOW—In Russia, the voice of America is strong again.

Alexander Nefyodov hears it every Thursday when he tunes in from the Arctic port city of Murmansk. "It's so interesting to hear from an American about how America really works," he says.

It isn't quite the radio of days past. Soviet-era beacons like Radio Liberty and the BBC have lost their place on Russian airwaves, and now the Kremlin is offering a fresher voice: Tim Kirby, an expatriate from the suburbs of Cleveland, who says he wants Russian citizenship and says Joseph Stalin was a better leader than he has been portrayed in history books.

On radio shows on Moscow's state-controlled Radio Mayak and in frequent appearances on state television, Mr. Kirby is making a name for himself inside Russia as a kind of Kremlin-appointed Joe the Plumber who explains a broken America to Russian listeners.

"We Russians think that whenever something goes bad here that it must be better in America," says Mr. Nefyodov, 25, who works in a small family wholesale grocery business. Now he says he knows "that things are worse or the same over there."

As the Kremlin rallied support for its ban on U.S. adoptions of Russian orphans imposed late last year, Mr. Kirby, who is 31, appeared on prime-time talk shows to say that one quarter of American children take pills that affect their brains,

In fact I’ve seen some Kyrby’s videos. He seems like pro-gun, pro-life and stand against political correctness.

Are you kidding me ? One of the greatest mass-murderers of all time ?

Yeah, the guy lost me when I got to the line about Stalin, too. Joe was an even bigger monster than Hitler was, and probably is second only to Mao in the number of deaths he caused, directly and indirectly.

Pfui on this guy.

From the article: “Last month the channel aired a report calling America one of the worst places to live, with quality-of-life indicators down there with Papua New Guinea. A state-run newspaper quoted a top Russian veterinary official saying American milk is laced with hormones that sprout whiskers on women.”

Equates American quality of life with Papua New Guinea? Only of that talk show thingie likes cannibalism and Stone Age rituals.

Something in Porto Rico did cause three year old girls to grow breasts, but I am not sure what caused it. Nor am I sure PR is really American in culture.

This guy is no different from the brush-apes during the Cold War who told lies to the Russian public about life in the U.S. In the seventies there was the case of the Russian jet pilot who defected. They took him out one time for a shopping trip in some American city. He thought he was being tricked, because the grocery stores were full of food and the other stores full of goods.

It's one thing to talk about things that need to be improved or corrected, and another to be a fantastic liar like Kirby. But more and more Russian citizens are visiting the U.S. Something that wasn't allowed and they couldn't afford under those "wonderful" communist governments. I've run into a few of them of trips out west. They can see for themselves what the country is like.

He’s full of crap and a propagandest tool of dictator Putin. People on here are agreeing with because we have a Marxist in the whithouse. It’s still better here, and far better than PNG.

Around the time of the revolution, the Soviets had recruiters here in the US to find wealthy communist sympathizers.

They would convince these useful idiots to relocate to Russia with all of their wealth. Once in Russia, the idiots would disappear and their gold would be taken “for the greater good”.

Mr. Kirby also shoots English-language opinion pieces on the Kremlin cable channel, RT. "I always wanted to affect society in a positive way, and now I can," he says.

This guy reminds me of the "soldiers" who disgraced the USA for fame and cheap hippie chicks. Idiots like Kerry

"Mr. Kirby, who is 31, appeared on prime-time talk shows to say that one quarter of American children take pills that affect their brains, and that they are endangered by religious sects whose members oppose medical care or dance around poisonous snakes."

There's plenty wrong in America that could be--and should be--truthfully told. There's no need to make up hare-brained malarky like this. If Kirby really believes it, he shouldn't be influencing the public, and the Russians would be wise to find someone better informed to tell them about the US.

Joe Stalin: "One of the greatest mass-murderers of all time ?"

Joe Stalin killed more people than Adolf Hitler!

A psychopath holding absolute power: He stands as a glaring example of the dangers of totalitarianism!

Stalin's legacy--like Hitler's and Mao's--is this age old warning: Power hungry psychopaths are always ready to seize power if possible.

My first thought was, how foolish is this radio guy, Russia is just a hair’s breadth away from total dictatorship.

My second thought was...so are we!

Freedom...use it or lose it!
