Mike Sullivan Suggests Military Service He Never Had
Mike Sullivan for Senate ^ | 4/22/13 | Sullivan

Posted on 04/22/2013 12:19:29 PM PDT by pabianice

Michael Sullivan is running for the Republican nomination for Senate in Massachusetts. In his latest mail flyer (above) he prominently shows a USMC AV-8B Harrier below statements about how strong he is on national defense, suggesting his own military service. The problem is that he has no military service, but is instead a career pol. I strongly believe this is a cynical and unacceptable attempt to portray himself as something he is not.

A Republican opponent, Gabriel Gomez, IS a former Naval Aviator and SEAL who shows in his adds an E-2C Hawkeye catching the wire aboard the boat. I guess Sullivan needed to whistle-up something to combat Gomez's military creds. Sullivan owes the voters an apology.

Gomez wears a SEAL pin in his lapel. Can anyone confirm or deny that he was a SEAL? He was an aviator, which is a seven year commitment after wings; That would account for his professed nine years of service, unless he somehow changed from Aviator to SEAL within that nine year window.

suggesting his own military service.

I read thru the flier three times and couldn't find it. My eyesight is bad, is there some fine print that I somehow missed?

“Tested and Trusted”, makes me think he was in the military

Are you really serious? If so, what branch of the military do you think the Energizer Bunny commercial implies he served in?.........Sheesh!

When someone says they are, “tested and trusted”, what were they tested and trusted in? Was he car salesman, a Doctor, exorcist, police officer? The first thing I thought of was military.

But as I wrote, it looks like he’s talking about his CV as an attorney and an ATF Director so it doesn’t bother me as the ad, taken as a whole is about his attorney, director credentials although it does, slyly attempt to imply he served but you know what, I’ve got Feinstain and Boxer and anyone would be better than those two.

I guess the objection would the use of the military plane in the ad? I don’t see that as dishonest, but YMMV.

Doesn’t matter one whit. The Supreme Court has already ruled it is ok for politicians to lie about military service. Ask the people at Stolen Honor how that works.

Hi All... just wanted to clear some things up on this thread.

Obviously this thread was started by a Gabriel Comez supporter - which is fine, Gomez supporters are entitled to push their candidate and knock down his opponents.

But there are key facts here which have been left out:

1. You all do know that Gabriel Gomez is an Obama supporter, correct? In 2008 Gomez endorsed Obama and contributed to his campaign.

2. When Obama appointed John Kerry to be his Secretary of State and thus the Senate seat Kerry occupied became vacant, Gomez wrote and personally delivered a letter to the liberal Democrat Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick. Gomez praised the Democrat governor's "national reputation for bold and thoughtful leadership" and said appointing him would be "good for Democrats." Oh, and Gomez bragged about his support for Barack Obama and pledged his support for Obama's policies on immigration reform (amnesty) and gun control. Read it for yourself - here's the letter he wrote stating all the things I just referenced: http://www.bizjournals.com/boston/blog/mass_roundup/2013/03/gabriel-gomez-patrick-letter.html?page=all

3. One of the reasons Michael Sullivan is touting national security issues is because as a U.S. Attorney, Sullivan was on the team that brought the Shoe Bomber, Richard Reid, to justice: http://www.ashcroftgroupllc.com/news/archive/sullivan-refliects-on-his-tenure-u.s.-attorney-says-shoe-bomber-gary-sampso/

4. Sullivan called himself a "proud Republican" and has been endorsed by the Conservative Campaign Committee (conservative group led by tea party leader Lloyd Marcus), Massachusetts Citizens for Life (the big pro-life group in Massachusetts), the Clinton, MA tea party, and a slew of conservative Republican legislators. Sullivan is a 2nd Amendment supporter who announced his opposition to the gun check bill: http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2013/04/12/gop-senate-candidate-michael-sullivan-says-vote-against-gun-background-checks/rhcFhLWQsHBKHRJrjIxx0O/story.html

So there you have it. I am biased - since I am working for a group that is strongly supporting Sullivan and running ads for him. But the person who posted this thread seems biased too as a Gabriel Gomez supporter. You can review the information and the records and decide for yourself on who the authentic conservative is in this race, and decide for yourself if this thread was posted to falsely smear Sullivan for something he didn't do, when the point of his mailer is obviously to show that he is a law-and-order, pro-national defense Republican.

I hear the ads for Gomez on WRKO but haven’t heard any for Sullivan. Where are they running? On TV? Not that it really matters to me since I’m voting for Sullivan next week. I was just concerned that he hadn’t been getting the word out.

After last week, I think Sullivan’s definitely the man for the job. I got a call yesterday from a democrat polling company (they’re obviously idiots since I’m a registered republican), but since they called me, I decided to mess with them a bit, told them I was a democrat woman in her 30’s and was definitely voting for Lynch.

Hello, cotton1706.

Yes, Gomez has dramatically out-raised Sullivan in terms of fundraising.

Gomez was the first to go up with TV and radio ads.

Our group, Conservative Campaign Committee, started running radio ads more than a week ago on several stations, and we had just added WRKO when the Boston bombings took place. We took our ads down as all the focus went to finding out what had happened and who was responsible.

WRKO is starting our ads once more today (Rush Limbaugh, Howie Carr, Mark Levin, Jerry Doyle shows, etc...) and we're also expanding into additional stations in Worcester and Springfield on top of the ads we were running on other stations across Massachusetts.

You can hear one of the ads we are running here - it is a contrast ad between Gomez and Sullivan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2SiWPJzwwo

This is my post. I do not support Gomez; none of the candidates have yet given me a reason to support them. I did want to raise the question of using military aircraft in a political ad when the candidate has no connection to them or to the military as the ad implicitly suggests (the other side of his mailer shows a cammie uniform and some razor wire). If it is shown that Gomez has fudged his record I will be just as unhappy with him. John Kerry rode lies into the Senate and then as Secretary of State. No more Kerrys.
