Mitch McConnell slams Matt Bevin in Senate race

Matt Bevin is getting a Mitch McConnell welcome in Kentucky: A slashing TV ad seizing on the political newcomer’s problems with his Connecticut-based bell manufacturing business.

Bevin, a wealthy Louisville businessman, is slated to announce a primary challenge against McConnell on Wednesday, hoping to tap into tea party anger to pull off a major upset against the wily 28-year Senate veteran in 2014.

McConnell’s campaign will unveil a six-figure ad buy Wednesday dubbing its opponent “Bailout Bevin,” attacking his primary foe for obtaining $200,000 in Connecticut state grants to help his companies rebuild after a 2012 fire. Twisting the knife even further, McConnell’s ad attacks Bevin for eight local tax liens his company was assessed with for failing to pay $116,000 in taxes in recent years. A local article in 2011 painted the company, Bevin Bros., as the No. 1 tax delinquent firm in East Hampton, Conn.

“Bevin’s company failed to pay taxes, then got a taxpayer bailout,” McConnell’s campaign ad says. “Bailout Bevin: Not a Kentucky conservative.”

It’s highly unusual for an established incumbent to attack a little-known primary opponent across the airwaves on the day of his or her announcement. But the Senate’s top Republican is taking no chances in fending off attacks from the right — just as Democratic outside groups are already pummeling McConnell across the airwaves in the Bluegrass State.

Both sides are preparing to spend big bucks early in what will likely be the country’s most expensive Senate race.

Mitch McConnell really is political scum. The elitest mentality of incumbent senators knows no bounds. If only they would even ATTEMPT to destroy democrats as they do any conservative opposition.

I know nothing about Bevin. McConnell’s enthusiastic attack, however, tells me someone is scared to death of Mr. Bevn.

He is RINO scum. And he is scared. He knows his dissembling, appeasing and cowardice during his tenure has ticked off a whole bunch of people. I hope the majority of them are Kentuckians. Even our own bastard RINO here in Georgia, Saxby Chambliss, has seen his future and is 'retiring' with his fat ass Senate Pension (and likely IMO with everything he stole while there). McConnell should do the same.

If it were up to me, I'd give them both a Bowie Knife and tell them to do the patriotic thing for their country. [shamelessly stolen paraphrasing from a book by John Ball, "The First Team"]

No wonder MM gets along so great with Reid. He campaigns like a Democrat...no principles stand in the way of destroying your opponent.

It’s way past time to fire him, Kentucky.

Yeah, I’m sick of McConnell. When it comes to conservative Republican challengers he’s nasty as they come. Harry Reid barks and he’s on his knees like a $10 hooker.

Really makes me angry when he says he’s a conservative. He’s gets the nomination with his dirty mud slinging and there is no way I’m voting for him. No lesser of two evils this time around.

the wily 28-year Senate veteran in 2014

He aint so Wily as Senate Minority leader.
Harry Reid leads him around by the nose.

I don’t know anything about Bevin, but the nasty way he comes under attack from this old RINO has me rooting for him.

Agree totally with you comment.

“Bevin’s company failed to pay taxes, then got a taxpayer bailout,” McConnell’s campaign ad says.

I just wonder. How does McConnell know the guys company did or did not pay taxes? Is it a public company?

If not a public company I would like to know HOW McConnell came about learning this information.

Also, NO Republican should endorse or campaign for McConnell after this type of attack. He should be relegated back to KY to

Might have to send Bevin some money after reading last night that the ‘leadership’ in Senate is trying to stop the bi partisan effort to defund Obamacare. Time for McConnel to go.

Dewhurst was taken out by Cruz in TX largely because Dewhurst's campaign used these same tactics. People who likely would have been indifferent to the campaign were outraged by Dewhurst's incessant viscious and unfounded attacks on Cruz. Maybe the same fate will befall McConnell.

Well, I am certainly going to *actively* campaign for Bevin and *against* McConnell. If I didn’t have to work for a living I would make it my personal goal for the next year.

The longer McConnell is in office, the more I despise him.

In CT, delinquent property tax info is published in newspapers.

Like McCain, McConnell only shows real fight when he is opposing a conservative. When opposing leftists, it’s just theater.

Beven made a success in the private sector. McConnell hasn't held a single job out of government that I'm aware of. What more does one need than that?
