ONAHAMA PORT, Japan (AP) — Japan has switched on the first turbine at a wind farm 20 kilometers (12 miles) off the coast of Fukushima, feeding electricity to the grid tethered to the tsunami-crippled nuclear plant onshore.
The wind farm which started up Monday, near the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear power plant, is to eventually have a capacity of 1 gigawatt from 143 turbines.
Its significance is not limited to the energy it will produce. Symbolically, the turbines will help restore the role of energy supplier to a region decimated by the multiple meltdowns that followed the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

More workers have died falling from wind turbine towers than all the people killed in nuclear power plant accidents in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Even in Japan, many more people were killed by the Tsunami and earthquake than the horrible Fukushima disaster.

I think you should probably just keep clicking the heels of your ruby red slippers together while repeating the phrase “There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home.” It’s far more relevant to wind turbine threads than your pointless comparison.
Here’s a more relevant question. Would you rather the US be down wind of Japan’s Wind turbines or downwind of tons and tons of radioactive materials released by their three failed nuclear power plants which are releasing radioactive fuel into the environment, not to mention being downwind of those lovely, damaged spent fuel pools full of fuel?
If you were a mathematician, you would be able to calculate the dilution caused by the largest body on earth...the Pacific Ocean...of the radiation contaminated water leaked at Fukushima.
Did you know you get more radiation in Sunlight playing golf than dental X-rays? Are you aware that fruits and fresh vegetables you buy at the grocery store were irradiated to prolong their life?
And I bet you do not know that low levels of rasiation are actually beneficial to the human body!
Your ignorance is perfect. Absolutely perfect. If you knew ANYTHING about radiation, you would be too ashamed to try to imply that radioactive waste from Fukushima is in any way comprable to sunlight, dental x-rays or fruit subjected to irradiation. At least develop a grade school understanding of these topics before embarrasing yourself further. Wikipedia can help. Open a book.
Better yet, learn what’s actually going on re Fukushima and the dumping of radioactive waste into the ocean, hundreds of tons daily since the accident and for the foreseeable future. A little information wouldn’t hurt you, would it? It’s odd to see you smirking and posturing when you are startling ignorant of easily available information - you don’t know because you don’t WANT to know.
Instead of pontificating opinions, present some concrete evidence of problems caused in the America’s due to Fukushima.

Why are you trying to change the subject? The post about wind turbines to which I was responding was absolutely pathetic and I said so. I asked a question far more relevant to the wind turbine thread, “would you rather be downwind of 3 nuclear reactor melt-downs or wind turbines?” Really simple but relevant question - but it looks like no one wants to answer. So you try to change the subject. How...weak...of you.
I have nothing against wind turbines except they are ugly and they require expensive infrastructure to transport electricity to the consumers and they stop producing when wind dies down.
I am a big fan of nuclear power. It does not pollute the atmosphere, is a steady and dependable source of power, and will be available for many centuries. May be I am prejudiced because I worked in the Lab where first sustained nuclear reaction in the world took place. (Fermi Lab).
Again, more workers have died falling from turbine towers than workers in nuclear power plants. Oil refineries have killed thousands. Coal mines have killed thousands.

Sorry but I don’t see the point of discussing this issue with people who are intentionally ignorant and/or deceptive. I used to take people like you seriously and wasted alot of time stating the obvious and backing it up with links. You can search back on my Fukushima posts all the way to March of 2011 if you like but it’s not worth my time to fetch you links when I know that facts aren’t going to change your point of view. But thanks for the knee-slapping grade unintentional humor.
