Ken Cuccenelli lost the 2013 bid for Governor of Virginia primarily because of Robert Sarvis’ campaign, funded in part by a Texas Obama supporter and campaign bundler, Joe Liemandt.

Using a 3rd party candidate to take libertarian voters proved to be effective – taking many solid conservatives away from the Republicans column. The same tactic could be used in the future to take the Christian coalition away from Republicans and bring about a Democrat victory. Indeed, right now Democrats are preparing to launch a third-part candidate to siphon votes away from the Republican in the nation’s 2016 presidential campaign.

But when it comes to exploiting the differences in the two main parties, which party is more vulnerable for picking off low-hanging fruit and splitting the base?

Why not put up a whole field of candidates – with the sole intent of fracturing the Democrat’s mosaicked base. Here is a list of candidates that I would propose for such a strategy:

1. Heath Waring – (Global Warming candidate) Heath believes that CO2 is killing the planet. He believes that laws should be enacted that restrict the use of automobiles. Bicycles should be purchased and shared by everyone. Highways should be converted to bike lanes and cars should travel at minimum speeds on single lanes reserved just for them. Industry should be regulated so that profits are established by Carbon Credits rather than dollars. Government should reward industry for “greening” its business practices. Heath is a volunteer with The Nature Conservancy.

2. Virginia Prokept – (Feminist Activist candidate) Virginia hates anyone telling her what to do with her own body. She opposes any restrictions on abortion and firmly believes women should decide for themselves when to have a baby. She favors unfettered access to birth control and contraceptives – for women of any age.

3. Gunter Kahnt – (Gun Control candidate) Gunter believes that the public should be protected by law enforcement agencies. Guns and ammunition should not be sold to anyone and the 2nd Amendment should be repealed. He favors confiscation, but he’s careful how he states that belief. He thinks that anytime a person is involved with a civil or criminal matter – whether as a suspect, defendant, or even a witness, they should be asked to surrender any guns they own – for “the sake of public safety.” Any time that a citizen has contact with a government official, including doctors, they should be asked if they own a gun. A national database should be established.

4. Warner Moore – (Anti War candidate) Warner wants world peace. He has a “COEXIST” bumper sticker on his Volvo. Warner says that “good, honest communication is the key to mutual understanding and will resolve many of the differences that cause unrest.”

5. Gayle Freeman – (GLAD candidate) Gayle is married to a woman named Pat. Gayle believes that 20% of the population is gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or suppressing the desire to express one of these lifestyles. She earnestly wants any gender-based distinction in the law to be neutralized. Society needs to be re-engineered to accommodate the reality that gender is irrelevant and that everyone of us is “queer.” Gayle wears pants.

6. Peter Louvoir – (Animal Rights candidate) Peter is a vegetarian. Peter believes that humans are equal to any other animal and that the same rights that are guaranteed to individuals by our government (no, he really believes that’s the source!) should be conveyed to animals. He calls people who hold to any contrary view “Specists.” Peter works for PETA. He was arrested once for breaking into a research lab. He’s not married but has a dog. The dog’s name is “Honey” and is always with Peter.

7. Hilda Occupy – (anti-Corporate candidate) Hilda is dirty because she has been at an “Occupy” rally for 5 years. She says that it is time for her to be more effective in ridding the world of what she calls “corporate controllers – the 1-percent of people who hold the real power.” She likes mom and pop stores and artisans who make things from wood and grass.

8. Redis Tribute – (Communist candidate) Redis calls himself the liberal progressive candidate but doesn’t shy away from the “socialist” label. Really, he’s a communist. Redis believes in a strong, central government that meets the needs of the people. Redis says taxes are relatively low in this country and that it is the responsibility of the wealthy to care for the underprivileged and disadvantaged by paying higher taxes. Government is the best way to achieve equality and the egalitarian utopia.

9. Chris Tater – (New Age candidate) Chris’ religion is Chris. He doesn’t believe in any god. He is the result of a series of events that took place over billions and billions of years. Chris says we have evolved and even though the odds were against it – here we are! Let’s make the most of it. Chris likes to party. There should be no drug laws. There should be no references to God in our government. Niche was right.

First, you have to form the party and get enough members registered and committed, to make a difference.

The libertarians did that.

Sarvis was the official libertarian candidate, not just some write in guy.

My husband was our county Republican chairman for ten years. The Democrats hated him (and me), and they had one of their men sign up on the Republican ticket against my husband. This guy was a known Democrat (also convicted for sexual conduct with a child). He even put in a newspaper campaign article about himself and his big experience for the job was he had been a high school cheerleader. Really, that was all he wrote about himself to be qualified for Republican county chairman.

He got nearly no votes as his own Democrats needed to vote in their own primary. He should have known he would be a joke among our Republicans. His wife voted in our primary for him so that was one vote and his vote made two. I don’t remember if there were any more Democrats who switched over to our primary. The money required for him to run as a candidate gave the Republican Party more money so that was a good thing.
