As a student of history I was interested in the new Beck book Miracles and Massacres and was wondering if anyone had read it yet and if it was good history.

I am half way through and finding it very informative and interestingly written. It is well written in chronological order almost like a series on TV. It reads like a novel, which I think good history should. But, even though some would say conversations and sidebar incidents can’t be written as non-fiction there are extensive details at the end that explain the research that went into each chapter. I’m recommending it to everyone.

I hadn’t even heard of it until your post. Most of the reviews on Amazon are outstanding…sounds like a great book.

Will let you know soon. I received my copy yesterday. The book was mailed from Georgia to Tennessee and it took 14 days to arrive! Apparently, it went from McDonough, GA to Knoxville, TN via Nome, Alaska, to Sochi, Russia to Paris, France to Portland, Maine and finally to Knoxville, lol!!! 14 days!!!! Could NOT find it at a local bookstore or WalMart or KMart or anywhere. Had to go online to purchase. Sheesh! 14 days! Had I known that, I would have driven to McDonough and back home within a day to pick it up personally.

It has a little known story about Athens, TN in it. I love history!

Update. IMO, Beck’s book bring’s historic moments alive — an essential for today’s audience who seem to have the attention span of a gnat. I really appreciated the caveats in the back of the book. What did you think about “The Battle of Athens”?

I started reading parts of it. It seems like a neat little book. Loved the Story about Athens.
Also, My nephew started reading it and he loves it. He is a junior in High school. Not a Public High school but a Christian based school where he gets very good grades.
