Clint Smith served two tours in Vietnam, worked as a police officer, was a member of SWAT, directed training at leading gun manufacturing firms, is an instructor of advanced weapons and tactics, and now runs Thunder Ranch, a facility in Oregon designed specifically for avid gun shooters. If you want to learn how to fire a gun and what to do in life and death situations Mr. Smith is the person youd want as an instructor. (Hes pictured next to his wife to the left, along with Mrs. Smiths 338 Laupa)
Over the years hes has passed on scores of insights and words of wisdom, some via numerous instructional videos. Here are some of his key thoughts on guns, gun ownership, and life in general assembled from across the web:
If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. Thats ridiculous. If I have a gun, what in the hell do I have to be paranoid about.
Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but hes gonna have to beat me to death with it, cause its going to be empty.
If youre not shootin, you should be loadin. If youre not loadin, you should be movin, if youre not movin, someones gonna cut your head off and put it on a stick.
The only purpose of fighting is to Win!
Shoot whats available, as long as its available, until something else becomes available.
When you reload in low light encounters, dont put your flashlight in your back pocket If you light yourself up, youll look like an angel or the tooth fairy and youre gonna be one of em pretty soon.
The handgun would not be my choice of weapon if I knew I was going to a fight Id choose a rifle, a shotgun, an RPG or an atomic bomb instead.
Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghillie suit.
Dont shoot fast, shoot good.
You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it.
You cannot save the planet.. You may be able to save yourself and your family.
There is no possible victory in defense.
The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either.
The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.
Dont pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, hell just kill you.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.
I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.
When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.
An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.
The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble? No maam. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.
Beware the man who only has one gun. He probably knows how to use it!
You can say stop or alto or use any other word you think will work but Ive found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someones head is pretty much the universal language.
The brain is the first weapon. If it is not engaged you have already lost. Situational awareness and an overall suspicious attitude toward everyone not vetted into a complete trust relationship will increase your odds of survival.
Banglist (((ping))).
Guy got stopped by a cop.
“License/Registration” “Do you know why I stopped you?”
“No sir, but I’d like to tell you I have a CCW and I have weapons in car.”
Turns out, there were three pistols in the passenger compartment and a shotgun and rifle in the trunk.
Cop asked, “what are you afraid of?”
“Not a damned thing, officer.”
Given a choice between a gun or a cop, I’ll take a gun every time. We need more self-reliance and self-responsibility, and fewer cops, a lot fewer cops. A well armed, well trained citizenry with the freedom to create polite society only needs cops for traffic control. On the other hand, government needs cops for people control. The weaker the people, the more powerful the government and its cops become.
I bet he shot a lot of dogs.

Cops no longer “protect and serve”, nor to fight crime.
Their ONLY function is to collect ‘revenue’.
Reminds me of a time a cop stopped basil.
Funny story!
Liberals claim there is so much gun violence that we should ban guns but if you want gun to protect yourself from that violence you are just being paranoid.
I saw a good one..
‘ Dear Lord,
If I die first, don’t let my wife sell my guns for what I told her they cost’
Bears repeating. Often. Truer words for the One Rule For Living have never been spoken.
It took a good while but even my once hoplophobic wife now carries and strives to live by the above rule.
Same thing as the way they claim that violence on tv doesn't make children more violent, but advertising on tv makes consumers spend money on the products that are advertised.
Real rifle calibers start at .30,real pistols start at .45.
Every shot that misses it’s target is nothing more than useless fireworks.
Real marksmanship trumps tech gadgets hanging from an opponent’s weapon.
Sorry, but if it’s too big and heavy to carry, it’s of no use to me. Here in SFL we live in t-shirts and shorts.
Keltec .380 is my amex card. Don’t even know it’s in your pocket.
Made in FL, guaranteed for life. And they use the good Italian mags.
I carry a gun because the jackass shooting at me is as likely to be a cop as anyone else.
Can I Quote You on that?
May a million taglines bloom.
