RE :”Before I begin, I’d like to acknowledge the prescience of the Buggles who accurately predicted the migration of the music industry from being about the “song” to being about the “performance” back in 1978 with their hit “Video killed the radio star.” To this day, their jingle-tune is best remembered as the video that launched the nascent MTV network.”

Still a great music video. And through the 1980s musical artists had to do music videos to sell records. But now MTV is un- recognizable garbage.

IMO the music industry peaked in the mid 80’s, and has been in a greed fueled nosedive ever since.

Although there are a very FEW new songs/artists that I like such as Avenged Sevenfold’s “Hail to the King” which IMO seems to be a poke at 0bama.

“Watch your tongue or have it cut from your head
Save your life by keeping whispers unsaid
Children roam the streets now orphans of war
Bodies hanging in the streets to adore

Royal fames will carve a path in chaos,
Bringing daylight to the night
Death is riding into town with armor,
They’ve come to take all your rights

Hail to the king
Hail to the one
Kneel to the crown
Stand in the sun
Hail to the king

Blood is spilt while holding keys to the throne
Born again but it’s too late to atone
No mercy - from the edge of the blade
Dare escape and learn the price to be paid

Let the water flow with shades of red now
Arrows black out all the light
Death is riding into town with armour
They’ve come to grant you your rights

Hail to the king
Hail to the one
Kneel to the crown
Stand in the sun
Hail to the king

(Guitar Solo)

There’s a taste of fear
When the henchmen call
Iron fist to tame the land
Iron fist to claim it all

Hail to the king
Hail to the one
Kneel to the crown
Stand in the sun

Hail to the king
Hail to thw one
Kneel to the crown
Stand in the sun

Hail to the king”

I cannot understand how so many people hang on every word and action of these celebrities. All of them are pathetic and disgusting. I don’t care how much money they have.

There are some incredible bands today. Coldplay, U2, Maroon 5 and some other great bands. I could care less if they are liberal or not....what I do care about is the disaster they displayed last night on the Grammy’s.

Certainly, but celebrity worship isn't anything new ...

I was surprised to find out that the two "Daft Punk" guys were Frenchmen who went to the same Paris high school as Chirac and Strauss-Kahn, pop music being the new path to fame and riches.

They always keep their faces concealed under futuristic helmets ...

I hope this isn't going to be another Milli Vanilli situation ...

I actually have the Jon and Vangelis album “Short Stories.” Someone gave it to me about 25 years ago, and it turned up recently (we moved), so I gave it a listen. A bit uneven, but some interesting material.

Well I’ve never been into hero worship, and not interested in celebrities at any level. Cool, but whatever. So I can’t understand the mentality.

“You must be young.”

No. I don’t think so.

But I wasn’t alive in the 50’s to have experienced early Elvis.

U2 IIRC got their start in the late 70’s. The other two I don’t listen to.

Two current bands I do listen to are Drowning Pool and Five Finger Death Punch because of their support of the troops.
