Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced Sunday that his government has expelled three US consulate officials accused of meeting with students involved in anti-government protests that have raged throughout Venezuela for nearly two weeks.
In an address on Venezuela state television, Maduro accused the consulate workers and the United States government of conspiring with opposition forces to incite turmoil across the country.
“We are determined to defend our country,” said Maduro.
US Secretary of State John Kerry expressed concern over Venezuela’s handling of the protests, resulting in at least three deaths, more than 40 injuries and numerous arrests and detentions.
“We are particularly alarmed by reports that the Venezuelan government has arrested or detained scores of anti-government protesters and issued an arrest warrant for opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez,” said Kerry.
“These actions have a chilling effect on citizens’ rights to express their grievances peacefully,” he added.
Anti-government protesters, chiefly comprised of student activists and led by Venezuelan opposition party Voluntad Popular leader Leopoldo López, have engaged in violent clashes with Venezuelan authorities despite a presidential ban on protests.
The decree banning further protests was issued after an estimated 50,000 Venezuelan activists marched through the Venezuelan capital of Caracas on Feb. 12, resulting in an eruption of deadly violence between protesters and government supporters.

I feel so very sorry for the Venezuelan people.
But I also feel angry at Obozo. His presence makes the Global Leftist feel no restraint.
I am surprised that our communist leaders here in America are not planning to send troops to help put down this rebellion.
In my opinion this situation is far more directly important to us than the Ukraine mess but our president is on the side of the dictatorial socialist regime.
