The face of the revolution in Venezuela?

Genesis Camona was a 22-year-old college student who participated in the protests. She was also a beauty queen, having won the title of Miss Tourism in her home state of Carabobo. According to her uncle, she and her mother were peaceful protestors wanting an end to the 15 years of socialism that have plagued the nation. He stated:

‘There’s no food, no milk, no baby food … It is horrible what is happening in this country,’ Gil said. ‘That’s why she was out at the protest.’

During the demonstrations, she was gunned down by members of armed militias known as colectivos. According to Reuters, these groups consider themselves to be the “defenders of revolutionary socialism.” They came about during the rule of Hugo Chavez are were essentially his “brown shirts.” In other words, they are the ones that get the job done when the government can’t get its hands dirty. A quote from Reuters expands on this:

The colectivos are accused of assaulting staff at opposition TV stations, sending death threats to print journalists, and even tear-gassing the residence of the Vatican envoy in 2009 after Chavez accused the Catholic Church of meddling in politics.

"The colectivos are paramilitary groups armed by the government and protected by officials in uniform," Lopez, the opposition leader, told Reuters after Wednesday’s violence.

Photo of Genesis Camona is at the link. I saw a similar tragedy connected with the attempted revolution in Iran after their last election was stolen. Her face is still on Twitter.

Such evil men as these "colectivos" are the fruit of Communism. Subhuman beasts.

Disrupting supply chains have consequences. Some people bank on it.

The economic laws put in place by the Chavistas make it impossible to do business

Not guilty. She is very brave to be out there like that. The people in Ukraine and Venezuela opposing tyranny are making us look bad for putting up with things here.

Yes. Any form of government that seeks to homogenize people, and thus suppress self-determination and freedom, will lead to misery. It always does. Love, charity, fairness, etc., have to come from the heart, not from the government. Government has none of those to give, and is very, very often populated with narcissists, who by definition are not going to be the ones to propagate those virtues.

A similar situation will develop here, probably worse, when the dollar collapses. And obama’s brownshirts won’t hesitate to shoot either.

Human nature hasn't changed ONE iota in all the time since there have been humans. We aren't ANY better or ANY worse. Today's excuse is always the same as it goes back to SIN. There have been subhuman BEASTS like this LONG before Communism and Karl Marx. Hard sometimes to remember that they too were made in the image and likeness of God with an eternal soul...and that God loves them too.
It all comes down to the seven deadly sins, doesn't it?

Greed
Anger
Pride (arrogance)
Lust
Envy
Gluttony
Sloth

These tyrants have been around since the beginning of humanity. I USED to think that if people were given the basics of life, educated, given a faith to follow and were safe...they would be good. Not necessarily so.

I learned that SOME people prefer evil and the voice of Satan calling them to the seven deadly sins: anger, pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony and sloth.

Here, however, there will be lots of people shooting back. I hope it doesn’t happen. But 90 million firearm owners make up by far the largest armed force on earth.

Communism denies the existence of God. They feel they answer to no one.

Look at the Millions murdered and the genocides in the name of Socialism/Communism/Fascism or one of their other derivatives in the past century. And tell me this has always been so.

Totalitarianism in all it’s forms is EVIL.

“seven deadly sins”

I agree with you, except for one thing. I don’t think the seven deadly sins fully captures the sin of narcissism (pride probably comes closest), which is in my view the number one force driving most of the world’s evils. The ambition to make the most of yourself, distinguish yourself as an individual, and to contribute to the world in your own unique way, is healthy and pushes us all to new heights. On the other hand, the ‘need’ to ‘be special’, and the absolute belief that you are ‘special’ and chosen to lead the rest of us is at the root of nearly every dictatorship and act of totalitarianism that has ever occurred in recorded human history - IMHO.

Narcissism is a personality disorder. Not all arrogant, prideful people are narcissistic.

That isn't what Putin or Obama are about. That isn't a piece of the puzzle. Putin is in for the land grab and power. That isn't narcissism. Wrong adjective for him. Power hungry? THAT I would agree to.

I think adjectives should be close to the mark: Power hungry Putin? Backbone-less Obama? Those seem more appropriate to me. Wouldn't you agree?

Remember, VERY IMPORTANT, that marxist Allende had his own communist militia in Chile and it was attacking the middle class and working class protestors.

That is one reason the military stepped in and took over. They knew that the communist militias were receiving weapons and training, esp. from the Cuban DGI and military advisors Allende had let into the country.

See the “White Book on Chile” for photos and details about this. It was published after Allende was ousted and offed himself. The military found all kinds of arms caches throughout the capital and some in the countryside.
