She documented her calls for help: two to 911; two to the NOPD's non-emergency line; and one to NOPD's Second District. The final call was answered and Bice confirms an officer showed up two hours after the attempted home invasion.The problem appears to be a lack of operators for the 911 system, and too many non-emergency callers using the system. In this case, Teri believes that the family dog scared off the home invader(s). Fortunately, Teri's right to defend herself and her family are recognized by both the United States Constitution and a recently ratified amendment to the Louisiana State Constitution.
In addition, there is the deterrent effect of criminals not wanting to be shot, and the likely possibility that a guns is carried with the homeowner out of the house.
When seconds count, the police are just hours away.
I phoned 911 recently to report what turned out to be a minor traffic accident. The call was answered immediately and an ambulance showed up fairly soon, then 4 or 5 Florida Highway Patrol or deputies arrived. It was night and the FHP lights were so bright that it hurt my eyes to look at them. There must have been a little more to it as the cops stayed for nearly two hours.
The only thing that bothered me is the operator asked for my name and phone number. Now I assume that information had to have been shown on his screen the second the call came in. I didn’t really mind giving it to him but it still was just slightly irritating. I felt like I was being investigated.
Never bring a 911 operator to a gunfight.
I think on the whole, if you brag about how many guns you have, how deadly they are, etc. you may run across somebody that’s gonna be looking for you to be gone and relieve you of them. So, talking about a number of guns, kinds, etc. isn’t something I’d do if someone would know who I am and could look up where I live.
I don’t think advertising that you are ‘armed’ by itself is a trigger for robbery per se.

Exactly right. BECAUSE if you can defend yourself against unorganized criminals, then you might be able to defend yourself against the future depredations of the biggest criminal enterprise of all - the government.
They already had your name and number. it’s sent by the telco to them when you call.
asking is redundant and likely just to verify you are the actual caller.
That could be a boiler plate question as they don’t know necessarily that they are getting called by the owner of the phone.
It could also be an ego thing. The government wants you to think it’s all-sufficient (facts be damned).
Glad to know that she is ok. It could have been much worse, Swat team, Flash bang, Splinter the door, Shoot the dog, Taser the home owner and arrest her before even know what the problem was.

It would kind of feed on itself in a vicious circle.
It appeared to me that this was normal activity between the two, and knowing that Louisiana conceal carry law was more restrictive than is here in Texas, I declined to do anything about it. As I drove off, "Travon" watched me carefully. As soon as I was pulling away, I saw/heard Travon smash the back window with a tire iron.
Now, that is just the last time I visited. In my 35 years of living there, I have tons more stories just like it.

Your story reminded me of a personal experience. Certainly not important or earth shattering but interesting to me.
I was born and reared in NW, Florida. I spent my entire life in the South until I spent 5 years in Western Kansas. I liked Kansas and the people but I could tell it was a bit different to me.
The first time I came back to visit my folks in Florida, I stopped for gas in Northern Louisiana. It was not a self service and a lady came out and began filling the tank.
As we stood their just chatting, I got the strongest sense of deja vu. I tried to figure out what it was as I had never been there before. Suddenly it hit me. I was back in the South.
