Prior to his Army service, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was administratively discharged from the Coast Guard after only 26 days in 2006.
U.S. Coast Guard and Army officials confirmed to CBS News that the sergeant who was recently exchanged for five Taliban detainees had joined the Coast Guard before the Army, but was dismissed for unclear reasons just 26 days later.
Lt. Col. Elaine Conway told CBS News that the Army knew of Bergdahls discharge from the Coast Guard, and said they are looking into whether it was known at the time of his enlistment into the Army.
An uncharacterized discharge means that Bergdahl didnt serve long enough to have his performance characterized or judged.
According to The Washington Post, which obtained several pieces of Bergdahls writings at the time, show a man struggling with mental health issues.
Trying to keep myself togeather [sic], he wrote, according to The Post. Im worried. The closer I get to ship day, the calmer the voices are. Im reverting. Im getting colder. My feelings are being flushed with the frozen logic and the training, all the unfeeling cold judgment of the darkness, he wrote in an entry right before he deployed....

I agree, at 26 days he was still at Cape May, NJ.
Ask his fellow Soldiers about his overall behavior. They were there.
Never in 26 years of Army service have I seen an officer demoted to an enlisted rank= a commission to and enlistment? Hmm. Some one ad better quote some regs to this former enlisted SSG retired FG officer.
Officers are offered discharge in lieu of CM if minor, never “demoted” to a lessor rank/grade and certainly not to an involuntary enlisted contract....
Either CM or go home (admin separation for cause)...
I am from MO, show me!
And .. since Bergdahl still has not spoken to his parents .. what do people think might happen if he’s turned loose and he returns home ..??
I’m really concerned he’ll turn on his parents.
I don’t know the reg. ‘cause I’m M.I. not admin., but I saw it with my own two eyes three times. Two, I heard, were some kind of RIFs, the other, as I described, was for a major security breach.
What’ll we know bout this guy and his dad a month from now?
It looks like they’re going to keep him under wraps for a while. Since he’s not talking to the parents, I’m thinking maybe he didn’t want to be freed.
So why is this coming out??? What story are they trying to spin???
It’s the Army’s fault, not poor little Bowe Bergdahl’s.
I look at the shack they live in and think of the Unabomber.
Oh and a free trip to the Washington zoo.
You are most likely correct.... more’s the shame
Liberal, ballet gay AND crazy ?!
Wow.
They live in a shack?
It’s a Getty Image so I don’t want to even post the link. But if you google Berghdahl Homestead, you should be able to find it.
Either he fell through the cracks or they were desperate for bodies, or both.
(((
Another possibility: Someone wanted in theater a nutcase that they could use as a liaison with Obama’s terrorist buddies.
Im really concerned hell turn on his parents.

Be a real shame....
Im thinking maybe he didnt want to be freed.
&&&
That’s what I thought when I saw him wiping away tears in the release video.
Army recruiters can be quite creative in getting anomolies like this brushed aside.
