Liberal's Solution to Border Crisis: Let Illegals Become 'State Citizens'

Breitbart Texas reported on a proposed bill in New York that would allow more than 2 million illegal immigrants to get a myriad of benefits including voting rights, the ability to run for office, Medicaid, drivers licenses, and in-state tuition by allowing them to become "state citizens." A sponsor of that bill, State Senator Gustavo Rivera (D-Bronx), told Breitbart Texas he thinks states in the Southwest should consider similar legislation to deal with the border crisis involving thousands of Central Americans entering the country illegally.

The bill was crafted "so that it can be replicated in other states," Rivera said. "If immigration reform doesn't happen at the national level, the states can take action."

If Rivera's legislation were passed in New York, an estimated 2.7 million people, all of whom are not citizens of the United States, would become "state citizens." In order to qualify, an individual would need to have no criminal history and prove they have lived in New York for three years.

Again, Congress can and should try to codify the “under the jurisdiction there of” portion of the 14th Amendment to show that such a child might not be under the jurisdiction of the US. What if the parents get divorced for instance? Who has jurisdiction over custody?
So in short, I agree that it is a bad situation, and I do think that a conservative Congress could help make some changes. My Senator, Jerry Moran, has proposed that Congress codify the “under jurisdiction there of” portion of the 14th Amendment.

Having said that, if the child you speak of was indeed a Citizen at birth? YES, that child is eligible to be President.

Only non-citizens and Naturalized citizens are excluded.

Please be advised that my daughter :
was born in New York State
was educated through high school in New York State, (for which I paid village taxes, county taxes , and State taxes for over 14 years)
paid college tuition (for 4 years : to the tune of $32,000.oo)
and went to a private college graduate School
and after UNSUCCESSFULLY looking for full-time employment as a teacher in New York State, she had to re-locate to California .

I am now looking forward to a REFUND of tuition paid in the amount of $32,000.oo, since you are now offering it free to ILLEGAL , UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS !!

Article IV Section 2 says that the citizens of a state have all the privileges and immunities as citizens of all the states.

New York would be making illegal aliens into national citizens. They don't have that power.

It would be a great experiment and would take some of the pressure off of Texas and Arizona. It will make NY the magnet for all illegal aliens. We will get to see the damage that would be done in a single state instead of risking the entire nation. That is the very purpose of Federalism.
