The father of Jordan Davis is turning his attention to the crisis on the border where thousands of children who are showing up without their parents are being detained.
Since his son's death, Ron Davis, has been working the U.S. Human Rights Network. Davis left Monday to attend human rights tribunals in New Mexico and Arizona along with members of this group.
"We are going to cross the border and we are going to let them know what their human rights are and we are going to advocate for them," said Davis.
Davis, who lost his own son to gun violence, said being an advocate helps him heal but this fight hits especially close to home.
"My wife, she's from Mexico, she's from Guadalajara. Suppose she couldn't have come in? I would've never met her," said Davis.
Many of the children being detained at the U.S.-Mexico border, most of them from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, are being released to sponsors in Florida.
Just last week President Barack Obama met with leaders from Central America to urge them to help slow down the influx of unaccompanied children.
"There may be some narrow circumstances in which there is humanitarian or refugee status that a family might be eligible for. If that's the case it would be better for them to apply in country rather than take a very dangerous journey all the way up to Texas to make those same claims," said Obama.
Davis and other human rights leaders are urging the president and congress to consider giving the children refugee status instead of sending them back to their countries.
"We always say that America is the beautiful, that this is the place to come when you're being oppressed. Well, we are not acting like that for Latin American kids," said Davis.
After his trip to the Midwest, Davis said his next stop is Geneva, Switzerland. There, he said he'll be joined by Trayvon Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton. Both are expected to speak before a United Nations conference.
He’s so lost. He’s stuck in the cellar on the plantation.
That's the same brilliant logic Jeb Bush uses as well. I guess traitorous minds do think alike.

That guy is an obvious tool.
Yeah, I don’t know why that happens sometimes. My apologies...
The fellow is a tool and a misguided fool.
No impotante’...
It’s always puzzled me why some who are married to Hispanics often think they have the corner on the entire debate and should be the sole arbiters of our sovereignty.
