The bullets kept coming.
An off-duty police detective, who had been trying to help capture a fleeing suspect, was on the ground, shouting to be heard over 19 gunshots unleashed at him.
"I'm a cop, I'm Hallandale Police," Hallandale Beach Detective Anthony Distefano yelled to Broward Sheriff's deputies. He continued yelling: "Kilo 12, 10-37 Distefano." "Kilo" is police speak for a plain-clothed detective, and 10-37 is a police code that indicates he's law enforcement.
Sgt. Andrea Tianga, who was featured on the reality TV show "Police Women of Broward County," and Deputy Christopher Manekas thought the gun-carrying detective was the suspect they were looking for, according to an Internal Affairs investigation released this week.
The agency's Shooting Review Board concluded the shooting was "proper" under Florida law, and there were no policy violations. It recommended Manekas receive 24 hours of training, which he has completed, according to spokeswoman Dani Moschella.
No one was injured in the incident.
In her statement to investigators, Tianga said she saw a gun and "was in fear for her life." She fired the first shot.
Manekas then fired at Distefano 18 more times, thinking Distefano had fired at Tianga.
His lieutenant, Shawn Enser, who previously saw Distefano running with his police radio, realized Manekas was firing at Distefano so he screamed at him "cease fire, he's a cop."
But Manekas didn't hear him over his gunfire, and he also didn't hear on the police radio that an off-duty cop was helping at the scene.
He reloaded his pistol with a fresh magazine and started firing again. Manekas didn't stop until the lieutenant grabbed his vest and told him to stop, according to the investigation. Then Manekas asked him: "Why are you telling me to stop shooting?" according to the report.

I would hate to experience “unfriendly” fire.
He is lucky that most officers are not proficient and I speak as a former LEO that was a firearms instructor.

F-ing women cops, man. With no physical presence and no strong commanding voice their gun is all they have. I don’t care if is sexist. They make me really nervous.

There is a distinct possibility that they will be minced meat shortly after he declares martial law.
Lets say no laws or procedures were broken why would the taxpayer want to continue employing an inept officer who can’t properly assess a life or death situation and a trigger happy goon who unloads his firearm Yosemite Sam style and ignores commands to stop?
Not a combat vet among them.
We used to say there were three types of people in combat: Killers, Fillers, and Fodder. Killers ignore the incoming and aim each shot. Fillers fill the air with lead and make lots of noise - with luck, they don't hit anybody worthwhile. Fodder's going to get killed no matter what you do for them.
Lucky for us none of these Law Enforcement Officers ever served in a real combat outfit.
I’m current LEO and firearms instructor and I’m afraid you’re right. There are a few that I want nowhere near me If lethal force is in play.

Male officers were more likely to shoot than female officers, and college-educated officers were less likely to be involved in shootings than officers with no college education. Risk of officer-involved shooting was reduced as the officer aged.
White, non-Hispanic officers were more likely to shoot than Hispanic officers; however, there was no significant difference between Hispanic and Black officers.
Try being a normal civilian who fires 19 shots at a guy you are afraid of...
Try missing that many times, in public, and not being charged with something!
When I carry, it is a 5-shot J-frame. I hope, if I need it, I’ll remember George Adamson’s advice on how to shoot a charging lion: “Wait until 20 feet. Don’t miss.”
So the simple sight of a gun is valid. The real sad part is there were 19 shots and nobody hit anything. Not even a dog.
Both have prior shooting incidents on record and both were pencil whipped as well.
That’s the great thing about owning academia: when the libtards need a study to “prove” something, they can always find—or fund—one.
So, what is the civilian-speak code to shout at a police officer who is firing 19 rounds in your direction to get them to reconsider?
