Karl Roves support for what many Americans consider amnesty for illegal immigrants has put the Republican political guru at odds with The Heritage Foundation for a decade.
Thats why observers of current and past incarnations of immigration reform were surprised to learn of Roves association with a campaign ad drawing attention in a hot U.S. Senate race.
The 30-second ad was paid for by American Crossroads, a political action group largely financed by Rove, best known as chief political aide to President George W. Bush. The ad, which first aired early this month, cites a Heritage Foundation report last year on the fiscal costs of amnesty in attacking the Democratic candidate in Iowa for supporting immigration amnesty.

By all means, keep an eye on him. Like a timber rattler in the lawn, he needs constant watching. I wonder if Karl will be handing Grover another $26 mil in Crossroads money again?
Because I live in Realville and know Tokyo Rove's inner character...or lack thereof.
Ignoring reality is not an intellectual attribute and is a sure way to ultimate defeat.
Obama’s flood of illegals has turned even the Democrats against amnesty, especially the Blacks. That ts the reason that the Democrats are so desperate to keep Ferhuson going, to remind Democrats that Republicans won’t them, either.
If true, Rove was dragged there by, of all people, Scott Brown.
Brown was dead in the water against Shaheen until he started trashing amnesty.
I agree that Rove is on the right side with this ad. However, I also believe that Rove is a utilitarian. It is only and uniquely about winning this race. As soon as this race is over, he’ll still be pro-amnesty Karl Rove.
Using hatred of illegal immigration to win a race has absolutely nothing to do with what he actually believes.
Rove is the worst kind of opportunist. He is a purulent boil on the nether regions of the GOP
The really sad, and NEVER spoken FACT about recent elections (2008, 2010 and 2012), is that roughly 100,000,000 (YES VIRGINIA, 100 MILLION!) otherwise eligible Americans DID NOT VOTE!
Will we see a repeat of that in 2014? Probably!
The GOP is trying to lure Hispanic and Black voters to the Republican Party?
Waste of time and money!
YO! REPUBLICANS! Go find conservatives who did not vote in 2008, 2010, and 2012 and get them to the polls next Tuesday!
you just wont be happy with anything, will you?
What should he be happy about?
McConnell’s has stated his first order of business in a GOP senate is to fund obamacare, the abusive IRS, etc. The beltway GOP have no intention of ever substantively opposing the Obama agenda. They won’t be opposing Obama’s executive amnesty. In fact, the GOPe will be cheering it behind closed doors because it takes the heat off them.
“I thought it was rather hypocritical, considering that Rove has been one of the major pro-amnesty and pro-illegals pushers.”
If Republicans win the senate, Rove makes out like a bandit.
Thank you for walking into my trap - I knew you'd come back with some flapdoodle like that. So let me help you out "FRiend."
To have a healthy cynicism is healthy - I and almost everybody on FR has a healthy cynicism. But to be totally cynical about everything all the time is a cancerous obsession and something that only embitters those who hold to it. Seek treatment. Not only that, it takes only a small IQ to always knee jerk react. It takes a larger IQ to put things in proper perspective. Do the math dude.
Now to your other point, the notion that there are two ways and two ways only to go here - your total all out cynicism about everything, or "gullability" - is a straw argument false choice - the way liberals have to argue everything.
I am far from gullible - I have a healthy cynicism. You have an unhealthy obsession. Game, set, match.
Immigration reform = White flag
Lefts motto: Spread the misery it’s for socialism.
You got it!
Crossroads GPS ran similar ads in Arkansas claiming that Pryor supported amnesty and the hiring of illegals.
If this ad helps beat Braley in IA, Pryor in AR, and any other RAT senator next week, it is an awesome thing. KR's past, present or future immigration thinking is irrelevant.
IMHO
That would require some kind of principled belief.
Rove is a political whore, no more, no less.
Let me tell you how elections work. Rove is NOT on the ballot. He's NEVER been on the ballot. And good ads are good ads, whether the messenger believes them or not. And in this case, Rove is supporting a candidate on the right side of amnesty with an anti message amnesty. Did I mention Rove is NOT on the ballot. That must've escaped you.
