In the wake of the shootings in Paris that left over a dozen people dead, Oxford University Press (OUP) has issued “guidance,” telling publishers to avoid “offensive” references to pork or pigs.
During a BBC discussion, these guidelines were revealed by news presenter Jim Naughtie. “I’ve got a letter here,” he said, “which was sent out by Oxford University Press to an author doing something for young people.
“Among the things prohibited in the text that was commissioned by OUP was the following; ‘Pigs, plus anything else which could be perceived as pork.'” Eating pork is strictly forbidden in Islam and, in certain sects, it is forbidden to touch pork.
“Now,” Naughtie added, “if a respectable publisher tied to an academic institution is saying you’ve got to write a book in which you cannot mention pigs because some people might be offended, it’s just ludicrous. It is just a joke.”

Guess they won’t be reading Animal Farm.
Fair is fair.
Damn, there goes their publishing my book: “1001 ways to enjoy Bacon during Ramadan”
Cue "The Ride of the Valkyries".
Fear of Islam runs rampant.
The pork that is served in DC is VERY offensive.
The world is insane!! Bending over for a cult that WILL kill you!!
Where are any leaders? Where’s Queen Isabel~~~the Crusades?? Gosh, this IS scary!!
There really is no end to the censorship with this bunch. Apparently ISIS has seized the road into Iraq and is burning books they deem unsuitable, charging a tariff on all goods they let through, and holding drivers hostage who have been found with offending texts in their shipments. I guess you can’t drop bombs on them (because nothing would get through). Wonder how the people of Iraq feel about having all of their incoming goods screened by this group?
I’ll obey that rule when pigs fly.
.
Surely this is satire.
No more Charlotte’s Web, Winnie the Pooh stories (not that that’s a bad thing) or Beatrix Potter or Animal Farm. Well done!
Pork is also prohibited for Jews, but Oxford Press never made an accommodation for THEM (nor did Jews ask for one). So what is the difference? Could it be that Oxford Press FEARS Islam? We are finding out who the REAL Islamophobes are!
Yeah, I guess it’s all over for Kevin Bacon. lol
Guess they missed the hated muslims have for dogs as well. Pets of any kind are also offensive, as are snowmen ...
Oxford University Press is going to have to ban most of the words in the English dictionary to be acceptable to muslims, which is why they are so few books in Arabic, and fewer still translated into Arabic.
Wonder if they could send a “special” shipment through that route? Especially if they confiscate some goods :>
Thanks rightistight.
