Alexis de Tocqueville called it 100% right on Islam...175 years ago!
one man's opinion...

No doubt every FReeper is familiar with the writings of Alexis de Tocqueville. The French political scientist and historian is best known for his monumental work "Democracy in America." In his later years, De Tocqueville broadened the scope of his studies and observations. Who knew that way back then he brilliantly recognized Islam for exactly what it was, and the dangers it posed to the world.....

TOPICS: History
KEYWORDS: alexisdetocqueville; democracyinamerica; france; islam; tocqueville
October 22, 1843 letter to Arthur de Gobineau (Tocqueville Reader, page 229)

"I studied the Koran a great deal. I came away from that study with the conviction there have been few religions in the world as deadly to men as that of Muhammad. So far as I can see, it is the principal cause of the decadence so visible today in the Muslim world and, though less absurd than the polytheism of old, its social and political tendencies are in my opinion to be feared, and I therefore regard it as a form of decadence rather than a form of progress in relation to paganism itself."

That was written nearly 175 years ago.

..and De Tocqueville had never even heard of “radical Islam.” To him, it was all one and the same..

Things were clearer back then to those who paid attention, and De Tocqueville was one of those.

He didn’t have newspapers and politicians telling him one thing about Islam, while he saw another thing with his own eyes.

Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. Our PC Leftist education has left several generations totally ignorant of the Muslim violence of the past, when millions were slaughtered by followers of the Koran. Europe should have remembered the horrors of this history, but they preferred to elevate tolerance over common sense as the ugly history of Islam repeats itself.

The Muslim defectives must blame the wickedness of the West for their utter failure to achieve anything but Satanic warfare since the seventh century.

It’s one Quran...written over 1,300 years ago, and never edited....so you can’t go around to claim there are different ways of interpreting what is written. One of the less-than-clever things about Islam is that you can’t ‘clean-up’ the mess by editing the Quran and taking the non-believers out of the mix. Fifty percent of the Quran is concerned strictly with non-believers....which detracts from the religion and possible positives. Add on threats of violence and death....what you have left is a marginal religious document.

I resent conservatives saying we must acknowledge we are at war with radical islamic extremists, if we are going to correctly identify and label the enemy then it should be identified as ISLAM period!

The enemy should not be degraded, stamped down or neutralized it must be DESTROYED period!

The battle should begin here in America with such “Shock and Awe” it causes all of islam assembled in the middle east and around the world to tremble with fear as to their demise.

A more contemporary thinker, Winston Churchill, expounded on it as well.

Winston Churchill on Islam

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property – either as a child, a wife, or a concubine – must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.
