If you thought building your own laser weapon at home was hot stuff, you haven't seen anything yet. Do-it-yourself fan Styropyro has built a laser "shotgun" whose eight 5W beams are adjustable with lenses, much like you'd adjust the choke on a conventional shotgun to narrow or widen its buckshot spread. As you might gather, 40W of combined laser power is pretty powerful -- and unbelievably dangerous. The gun can destroy everything from balloons to ping pong balls, and there are reflected beams that could easily smack someone's eye. Don't try this at home, folks. It's still an impressive feat of homebrew engineering, though, and Styropyro is hoping to make something "even crazier" before long.

Yep.
These are the same type guys who talk up a nuke plant in their garage. They insist nothing is really dangerous, and no really believes them.
Watch for feds to rally to start taxing and regulating this technology to not only prevent us from having it but also try and keep us on the old gun tech since they are not done trying to take that from us.
The Terminator might stop buy to get a phased plasma rifle in a 40 watt range.

This might be a very effective weapon for the [real] zombie apocalypse - the one where the real zombie hordes are looting, burning and rioting in YOUR neighborhood.

I tried to search for this first to make sure and didn’t find anything.
We also used to take more chances. Scientists pioneered their own theories by experimenting on themselves.
I applaud this sort of thing. Extend anything out far enough and the outcome is the same. Might as well get some knowledge out of it.
The guy should be careful. Then he should build a bigger one.
