The Fourth debate did NOT draw as many viewers as the third debate; are minds made up?

Maybe people are beginning to make up their mind about who they will support in the Republican primaries.

The television viewership ratings tell the story. It may be too late for anyone to catch Donald Trump. Just as after every other debate, even on the Democrat side, the paid “insiders” tell us who won the night and we disagree.

But in all but loony toons Glenn Beck’s poll where libertarian Rand Paul beat Donald Trump by a single point, Trump has won with numbers running from solid to blow out.

When hundreds of thousands of people vote on these on line polls, even in those that unfortunately allow multiple votes, all of them somehow end up with Trump on top. After this debate Trump sagged to 34% in the Drudge poll but still maintained an average double digit lead over the various second place finishers, whether, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, or Rand Paul.

A local talk radio station in New York is quoting a survey of “Republican insiders” that shows Marco Rubio “clearly won” with 40% giving him the nod and their second place finisher had just 12 percent. These are the same “insiders” who have not been able to derail Trump for five months.

Now we are told by the people who have no dog in this fight, the people who keep track of the television ratings, that the viewership of this debate was very high but not higher than the last debate. The ratings fell 500,000 viewers to

Probably too many debates and too close together.

Trump doesn’t need to “win” a debate, he just needs to show up and be himself. If he does that, he holds his lead.

The winners would be the ones who reached out and made an impression. That would be Cruz, Fiorina, Rubio, and Paul. Of those, Cruz and Fiorina made the biggest gain, in my view.

I think people are starting to pay attention to Cruz. Until now, non-political people have not paid him any mind. I think that is changing.

Probably because there was no Forth debate. It's settled code.

If you're talking about the fourth debate, though, I can't help you.

Many satellite and cable packages do not carry Fox Business, which made FBN a curious choice as a venue.. Out of 4 consumers in our family circle, we were the only ones who have that channel. It was surprising that 13.5 million even found the debate.

-1 Fourth, not Forth.

I’m guessing that after three shams of a debate, people decided it wasn’t worth their time to watch. They just weren’t learning anything about the candidates to help them make an informed decision. Too bad, because this fourth debate was actually far more informative than the previous three.

Many satellite and cable packages do not carry Fox Business...

Exactly! It was their best viewership number in their history, and not available to many households...

It’s no surprise, and yes I believe most minds are made up.
One thing is certain, if Kassich and Fiorina are still in next debate, fewer still will tune in.

I thought it was a reference to the Firth of Forth.

Or are they just going back and forth?

I didn’t watch any of them.

After they are over, I read what Freepers have to say about them.

Much easier on the old ticker that way—LOL!

Not as many came forth for the fourth debate.

Bingo! FBN is available to over 11 million fewer households than CNBC. And it was a record for them.

This time I listened to the debate on radio via the Tune In app on my smartphone, while following the live thread here. It's fun to get a running commentary from my wiser fellow Freepers.

Or people fed up with the media.

The debates are just entertainment shows in reality.

Maybe the absolute zoo that the third debate became turned people off? Of all the debates I think only this last one was any good.

Yeah, I didn’t know if we had Fox Business, and I probably won’t turn on that channel again. I don’t even watch Fox News. I think that was why viewership was low.

I think they are being ruined by too many candidates that have no chance of winning too.

Many of these people need to get out and get a life.

Kasich and Carly need to go. So does the kiddie table kids.

I turned it off for a couple of reasons. It was boring and I probably wouldn’t have learned anything new about the candidates anyway. I already know ‘who’ they are.

THAT fact can make a significant difference. Access is crucial to viewing for those who prefer TV.
