Just wondering if this is just on my computer or not. It has been going on for several months now.
I use Firefox on Win7. I couldn't find a tech support link.

Looks like it worked.
The output contains the proper UTF-8 for left and right curly double-quote.
Yeah, I shoulda actually remembered test numbers.

Isn’t that in the header of every page template?
How hard is it to fix that?
I just assumed it was similar to the voices I hear - so, you hear them too?
I get them...only on Free Republic...I thought it was some kinda secret code
Actually, no. conjumction is a word like and, but, so, etc. that connect two separate sentences to make a connected thought.
What you are referring to is apostrophes, and two together would be a quotation mark. The simple list of characters does not have left or right apostrophes or quotation marks. When the code for them is pasted into the Free Republic interpreter to be posted on line. it has no value for the code, but replaces the cod with something else, which is what you see when the codes are sent on to your computer.
This effect also is caused when other fancy characters like an em dash, or another strange punctuation mark is put in the text by a word processor software font face.
You can use PaleMoon or 64 bit Waterfox if you want to avoid supporting overt pro-sodomite policy, yet Apple is throwing its support behind a bill that would outlaw discrimination against LGBT people under federal law. But Firefox and family browsers are far superior in terms of functionality to all others for power users. Most do not even enable you to have multiple tab rows, and in Chrome i could not even switch the default ctrl+tab switch.
This should be used for posting formatted articles as a norm.
As a user with stiff arthritic fingers who must lift up my hands to type each key i thank God for helps that reduce typing. For a long time i have been using the BBCodeXtra which enables you to make custom tags, such as what your toolbar enables and more. However, i do not see where your toolbar will enclose selected text in < p > and < /p > (spaced here) tags. I also use a AutoHotKey script to remap CapsLock to ctrl+c, and change Esc to ctrl_v, and then NumLack to Esc, and the middle mouse button to ctrl_x. PM me for more.

Ping to above post.
Yup.
It happens with quotation marks, apostrophes, and hyphens.
It’s a pain but the easiest way I found to deal with them is, when you copy and past something, to manually change them. They look different when you add them yourself instead of copy and pasting them.
And they work different, too.
Author. — He calls himself in the address “the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James.” See on Introduction to the Epistle of James, in proof of James the apostle, and James the Lord’s brother, the bishop of Jerusalem, being one and the same person. Gal. 1:19 alone seems to me to prove this. Similarly, Jude the brother of our Lord, and Jude the apostle, seem to be one and the same. — A. R. Faussett

Yea, Word allow one to save a document in HTML. But, its not my thing though so hopefully others will answer.
It’s “ack, ack, ack!” translated into Martian.

Now, this line is being created in the "Your Reply" box to have "dumb quotes" in it, but when tagged with HTML paragraph tags, the "dumb quotes" will remain "dumb" as posted. However if the Post with "dumb" quote marks is cut and pasted into a later Reply, and no HTML tags appear in that text box, upon Previewing or Posting the marks will be really stupidly turned into "smart" (slanted) quotation marks.
I hope you can follow this.
(PLus, in the above, I have corrected my previously misspelled and capitalized words 'Them' to 'then'.)
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! This is exactly what I've been needing to post better here on FR. In my humble opinion this user script should be built in to the FR software so it shows up for everyone every time someone responds to a post.
Boomer: . . . this user script should be built in to the FR software . . .
AFIK, the transformation of "smart" quoteation marks, apostrophes, em-dashes, and other non-ASCII text into gobbledegook is not a bug in the FR software. It is a necessary consequence of making it possible to let posting a reply be simple enough for the untutored participant to post a simple sentence or two constructed in the "Tour Reply" box, without having to resort to knowing HTML coding. Anything beyond that, like cutting and pasting from other blogs or websites, goes way beyond that. Of this, we are warned. To participate that way, one ought to at least teach him/herself some very basic use of HTML tags to create a reply that has form, without causing unexpected results in the reply as it appears in the forum.
This ought to be counted as a minimum obligatory degree of using the system as conceived and inexpensively executed.
All you need to do to make a good reply is to paste whatever you want into the "Your Reply" box, then actually review the reply as it would be posted in the Preview box where it says in bold print at the top:
"If you posted your comment as-is, it would look like ...";
and then modify your input in the "Your Reply" box until when it is Previewed, what appears is what you want it to look like. That's your responsibility. Learning enough about the mechanics of making nice posts is the duty of the poster, so that the site can be accessed by everyone expensively at some level of coding experience.
Don't expect to be pasting in stuff from other sites without getting on the HTML learning curve. Even copying and pasting from the Forum page into "Your Reply" can cause unexpected consequences in the Preview. Be advised. KISS. IMHO.
