How far could Donald Trump legally go to take on his protesters?
The Kansas City Star ^ | March 18, 2016 | David Lightman

Donald Trump can insult hecklers at his rallies, tell 'em to "go home to mommy" and even suggest they should have been roughed up.

But the increasingly heated, intense protests and insults at his events raise important questions about free speech, a cornerstone of American democracy: How far can a candidate or his opponents go?

After all, the political process is one where everyone has a right to be heard. Still, there are restrictions.

As long as a candidate's events are in a private place, or a public venue the candidate has reserved and paid for, no one can legally interrupt the event. Doing so would be akin to disrupting a wedding or screaming in the middle of a movie. It's Trump's show, and he can holler "get him out of here" all he wants....

He's not stupid ... he's a quick study ... he's got the message ....

Send 'em home to their mommy

Protesters have the right of free speech like anyone but when they cross the line and become disruptive, that is actionable.

another question: how far can the media go smearing someone before it becomes incitement to riot and even murder?

I believe in freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, and the individual right to keep and bear arms - all of which are nearly absolute. When someone infringes on any of those rights (mine or another person’s), I have no sympathy if they are not treated gently.

All the protestors are giving him free publicity. Thank you!

Plus, the anti-Trumpers are looking for any excuse to demonize Trump. Everything will be done legally.

The violent protestors are the ones breaking the law, not Trump.

Well, Democrats have been rioting for an awful long time. Big riots where entire communities are burned down. It’s what they do as true socialist revolutionaries.

Not only that, but this presidential election is about whether the first amendment will survive in this country. If Trump’s opposition will not allow opposing speech. And that is the cornerstone of their movement. Then things become very clear. For Democrats and Republicans. Do you want a Socialist country in which you cannot express your political or religious views if they are not in align with Berny Sanders, or whomever else is the current dictator?

And it’s not in the name of freedom. They riot for “social justice.” Lynch mobs.

It’s not about hecklers, and it should be “how far can the protesters go?”

But is that really needed, to deal with the typical anti-Trumper?

Wouldn’t a rally be considered a public venue?

“After all, the political process is one where everyone has a right to be heard.”

Absolutely not. When someone rents a private venue, what is said and done there is completely at the discretion of the renter.

Is there a well informed Freeper out there who could show a pattern of public comments by Bernie that clearly demonstrates his desire to eliminate first amendment rights to free speech that disagree with his Socialist movement?
