Teddy Roosevelt was Right: No Hyphenated-Americans

In an address to the Knights of Columbus in Manhattan on October 12, 1915, President Teddy Roosevelt remarked:

"There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all.”

“This is just as true of the man who puts “native” before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or English or French before the hyphen. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance.”

“But if he is heartily and singly loyal to this Republic, then no matter where he was born, he is just as good an American as anyone else.”

“The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English- Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian- Americans, or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality than with the other citizens of the American Republic.”

“The men who do not become Americans and nothing else are hyphenated Americans; and there ought to be no room for them in this country. The man who calls himself an American citizen and who yet shows by his actions that he is primarily the citizen of a foreign land, plays a thoroughly mischievous part in the life of our body politic. He has no place here; and the sooner he returns to the land to which he feels his real heart-allegiance, the better it will be for every good American.”

Flash forward to the current US Presidential Election and the appearance of countless Trump protesters waving Mexican flags at events across this great nation. Many of these so-called protesters are really anarchists who are also burning American flags outside of Trump rallies.

It doesn’t matter if you support Mr. Trump, are a Never Trump member, a potential Hillary voter, or are riding the Sanders Siberian Express, this should outrage every American of every nationality and creed.

Let me speak for millions of Americans to these Mexican flag waving anarchists.

Take your foreign flags and get the hell out of the United States; forever. It doesn’t matter if you’re from Mexico, Canada, Ireland, Germany, India or Timbuktu, who in the hell do you think you are that you can come here illegally, wave your country’s flag at US political protests, burn our flag, and not think Americans are going to be outraged?

Of course you have the right to protest, in fact, if you read something other than Che Guevara or Bill Ayers’ Pocket Guide to Communist Revolution; such as the Declaration of Independence, you would learn that you have certain inalienable rights, certainly more rights than you would have in the chaotic, despotic Third World country you apparently love more than the United States of America. Voice your opinion anarchist; yell, speak, march; no problem. That’s your right. It’s your right guaranteed to you by the US Constitution and American blood shed here and across the world in the defense of liberty.

Who are these Mexican flag waving protesters?

Some of them are misguided, American leftist pinkos supporting Bernie Sanders. Many of them are illegal immigrants, who have been getting a free ride, courtesy of an inept, politically correct US Government for decades.

The illegals waving Mexican flags at Trump protests are insulting the millions of legal immigrants who came to this country, including the legal immigrants who came here from Mexico, and particularly those Hispanics who currently serve in the US military or who previously served and died for this country.

When interviewed, many of the Mexican flag wavers spout off the endless parroting about how Trump is a racist, Trump wants to deport illegals, Trump wants to build a wall; aka Trump wants to enforce the law and do his Constitutional duty if elected President, to protect this nation.

Those not waving Mexican flags hold signs that read, “Make America Mexico Again.” This is a far flung fantasy, along the lines of a Fourth Reich in Germany. It ain’t gonna happen. If these protesters/anarchists knew anything about history, they might discover that Mexicans like the Tejanos were fighting on the side of the Texans and Sam Houston to free themselves from the Old World tyranny brought to Mexico and Norte Mexico by Senor Santa Anna.

What many of these anti-Trump protesters are really about are several things: one, they know a Trump Presidency would signify that the gravy train is making its last run. The illegals have been taking advantage of the generous nature and good folks of the US for too long. We’ve looked the other way as you carted off millions of blue collar jobs and depressed wages to the point of no return.

The Mexican flag waving, La Raza, Make America Mexico crowd is an excellent example of how the prophetic words of the hero of San Juan Hill were forgotten in the latter part of the 20th Century. While European immigrants and millions of immigrants from other countries, including Mexico assimilated, in the last two decades it has become the trendy thing to look the other way as the Balkanization of American takes place. We have reversed the American motto of E Pluribus Unum, “out of many, one” to “out of one, many.”

The federal government, under the guise of being politically correct, doesn’t want to enforce our nation’s laws. The result; Mr. Trump and millions of supporters from an awakened silent majority and the subsequent rise of the Mexican Fifth Column on the left.

Unless the words of Teddy Roosevelt are heeded in the coming years, a full-fledged disintegration of the United States is possible.

Mostly agree with you. Those that come here, or live here, and think you can change USA law (USConstitution) with judicial decrees and simple legislative majorities, without amending the Constitution, then get out. You are lawless or treasonous.

Victor Davis Hanson nailed it some time ago: “Hyphenated-Americans have hyphenated-loyalties.”
