In his first interview as president-elect, Donald Trump pledged that he will accept as little of the presidential salary as he can get away with. I think I have to by law take $1, so Ill take $1 a year, he told CBSs Leslie Stahl. $400,000 youre giving up, she responded, as if this were some sort of public-spirited sacrifice.

If he accepted the salary, they would be attacking him for that.
Heard that on “60 Minutes,” but not exactly a salary in the usual sense.
They tried to tear him apart, but are defeated by comparing him to Washington.
Il Douche
And I'm pretty sure he's probably donated way more than 400K to veterans' causes.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho! God Bless Texas!
>> The people in the MSM are mentally ill.
LOL... indeed.
Actually, I think this is what the democrats are most afraid of.
I seriously think that a Trump presidency could be the best thing that ever happened to minorities, the inner cities, etc. If the corruption is removed from our cities and the playing field is leveled, there will be plenty of opportunities - FAIR opportunities - for everyone. Average everyday citizens of inner cities, not just the well-connected cronies, will have a shot at anything they are willing to work for.
If this happens, the myth that the democrat party is for the little guy and that the republican party only takes care of the rich while stealing from the poor will be put to rest. And if that happens, why would the poor continue to vote democrat? The thought of this terrifies professional democrat politicians and their cronies.
What a drivel ridden piece of trope.
The author assignment so new meaning to several quotes in the article:
“There are men who could neither be distressed nor won into a sacrifice of their duty; but this stern virtue is the growth of few soils. In other words, it is a terrible idea to write a Constitution as if all future presidents will be Washingtons.
Total crap and not applicable to Trump. He is wealthy by his own work and if he chooses not to take the $400k it is an excessive of free agency to be charitable to his fellow Americans.
I am the officer of a 501c and I don’t take the monies available to me because the charity needs it more than I do and the amount is trivial.
If the author observed Jesus walking on water he would declare “See! He can’t swim!”
If you want to find fault with someone and look hard enough you will find it.
Coulter them.
The writer is a dumb@ss. His logic is flawed and I have to believe this is the first time the “will of the framers” was ever mentioned approvingly in Politico.
Reading the article, I didn’t realize that George Washington was to receive $25,000 as salary. It didn’t mention if that was per year or for the whole term of office.
In any event, a huge sum of money in 1788.
Bloomberg did it, too.
Must have been auto-correct for billionaires.
