Trump to let media choose where he donates his salary

US President Donald Trump will donate his $400,000 (£329,620) salary to charity at the end of 2017, his spokesman has confirmed.

And in an unexpected twist, he wants the White House press corps to decide where it should go.

Before taking office, Mr Trump told CBS's 60 Minutes that he would not claim his presidential salary.

It was confirmed that it would be donated after multiple media outlets asked if he was keeping that pledge.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told a press briefing: "The President's intention right now is to donate his salary at the end of the year, and he has kindly asked that you all determine where that goes."

Mr Spicer joked that letting the media choose a beneficiary would be "a way to avoid scrutiny".

"In all seriousness, I think his view is he made a pledge to the American people he wants to donate it to charity and he'd love your help to determine where it should go," Mr Spicer told the press....

Dumb move. They’re gonna pick Planned unParenthood or something like that.

I hope this isn’t true. Of course they will gleefully choose planned parenthood.

If he gives it to a religious org=- he will be accused of ‘violating separation of church and state”

I'm sure they'll pick the NRA.

I could be wrong about that.

If someone suggests the Tides Foundation, or the Ford Foundation, just hang up! One of those is a Soros shell program, the other is devoted to all that is progressive.

As much as I don’t like Pres. Carter’s busybody ways, he has created Habitat for Humanity. They trulu have helped many low income folks obtain a home of their own, with a little sweat equity.

Please. Trump plays three a dimensional chess. That’s EXACTLY what he wants them to say. Shows their bias loud and clear.

Get a book on chess. :)

Planned Parenthood or the DNC.

See #7. The “unbiased” press telling him to donate it to a leftist organization is EXACTLY what he wants. :)

Carter didn't found Habitat for Humanity, but he's been a big supporter, and he and Rosalyn worked physically building houses besides giving money and support. I've always admired him for that.

I can't imagine the press corps coming to a decision. Trump should give them a list of 5 organizations to vote for. Spicer did say Trump wants their help in deciding...not that they should decide.

The religious charities need to convert to Islam.

The press is likely to pick some leftwing non-charity.

I’d like to see it go to something truly worthy. A legitimate medical research effort. Something for the vets (Fisher House or the Semper Fi fund). Maybe give the whole thing to a person with a particular need, like a person (not a deadbeat) in need of a $400,000 surgery that due to 0vomitcare is no longer covered.

I don’t want to see it go to some boondoggle where it is wasted. Bad choices: cleaning up something or repairing something that will quickly deteriorate. “Education” charities that mostly benefit the administrators. “Politically correct” charities that are only for particular favored groups. Monuments that, regardless of how noble the person or thing they commemorate, don’t accomplish anything.

I would put the money in a building fund to add a ballroom on to the White House. State Dinners under tents is kind of tacky.
