One of those moments you never forget: 18 years ago, before the dawn on March 25, 1999, I stepped outside the door to find The New York Times there on the ground with the headline announcing that NATO had begun its bombing campaign against the Serbs in the former Yugoslavia on March 24, 1999. I remember looking at that front page of the paper before picking it up and thinking - "They are really doing it... It's no longer a threat... It's real... It's real... What a mistake... What a mistake..." Then I picked up the paper and went back inside. So began a cruel 78 bombing campaign against Serbia, by the NATO allies, which included the time span over the Easter holiday and my family's Christian Patron Saint's Day - our Krsna Slava, St. Lazarus Saturday - which falls a week before Serbian Orthodox Easter.
I love America. Always have. Always will. But that bombing campaign in the Spring of 1999, yet another horrific mistep in American foreign policy against the Christian Serbs that had spanned throughout the decade of the 1990s beginning with the break-up of the former Yugoslavia, was a mistake of GIANT proportions. The Serbians had always been one of America's most steadfast and loyal Allies and certainly her best friend in the Balkans for sure. What hurts the most is that now so many Serbians no longer consider America a friend or an ally and have no wish to be either of those to America. That is the real tragedy. The WRONG people were targeted. The WRONG people were punished. The WRONG people in the Balkans were alienated.
The NATO bombing campaign of 1999 against the Serbs stands as one of the most unjust acts of aggression in the history of the world. I can only hope and pray that, at the very least, some day there will be a public act of contrition in the form of a public apology from America, regardless of whether there is one from her NATO allies or not, and that this apology will resound for all the world to hear.
AMERICA OWES SERBIA THAT ACT OF REPENTANCE, AND MUCH MORE.

They had the gaul to stand up the the Santanic Muslims... so they had to be bombed by the liberals!
The USA owes the Serbs NOTHING.
Since then I have learned more about the situation, and am inclined to agree that yes, this is another Clinton F*** Up.
“The USA owes the Serbs NOTHING.”
You’re right. Serbia is the one who owes the USA some serious retribution and we should be grateful that they’re not attacking us like the Muslims we foolishly protected eighteen years ago.
Yes. President Clinton picked the Muslims over our WWII allies in a “wag the dog” moment.
I was horrified. It was in direct contravention of the NATO charter. No one in the US Media even mentioned the NATO charter. Clinton was an incredible disaster for the U.S.
It was just the continuation of a war the Ottoman Turks started approx. 700 years earlier
Clinton did the Saudi’s bidding by giving Islam a major foothold in Europe, and later, by establishing the gangster-Jihadi state of Kosovo.
They say that the victors write the history. We bomb CIVILIAN TARGETS in Belgrade because Serbia was trying to keep its country together.
...and no war crime charges for doing that?
We backed the wrong horse.
A shameful moment in our history.
I agree wholeheartedly with the author. At the time few people understood what was really going on, but Bill Clinton had the adoring support of the corrupt MSM and he slaughtered Christian Serbs who had been defending themselves from the slaughtering Muslims.
The author is correct, this was a great injustice and a dark stain on the American character.
Aye, but nothing like the legacy of destruction he left in Serbia and "Koscovo".
It was an utter disgrace, period. I seem to recall us bombing the Chinese embassy in Belgrade and losing a stealth aircraft, also. Nice going, treasonous Clinton pigs.
A lot of Allied Airmen's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are thankful the Serbs saved those Airmen from the Nazis.
I agree with most of the things the author said, except that. She is blaming the WRONG people. If she wants to blame someone, blame Clinton. Serbs should demand we turn him over to them, bound and gagged. He's about as American as Karl Marx.
God Bless the Serbian people.
