The North Korean EMP Bomb, Part 2
Right Wing Conservative News Blog ^ | May 12, 2017 | Jeffrey A. Friedberg

There are many who seem to routinely poo-poo the idea North Korea can field an EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) nuclear bomb attack on America. The generally uninformed, often-lying, US media does it all the time.

And apparently well meaning bloggers and posters, seem to believe they have the answers.

Some of them, “seem to know more,” than even retired CIA director Robert James Woolsey Jr, and another expert, US Congressional EMP Task Force director Dr. Peter Vincent Pry.

And yet, these pundits and players, don’t know. They typically concentrate on the “unreliability” of North Korean missiles, the lack of reliable re-entry vehicles, smallish nuclear detonations, and they cite numerous missile “failures.”

Well, North Korea doesn’t need any of those items to execute a successful EMP attack on America. They don’t need missiles, launches, or re-entry vehicles, and the largest an EMP bomb has to be is apparently just 10 kilotons, detonated at an altitude of around 70 miles. They already have what they need.

If EMP weapons were that easy to build, we’d have them in our arsenal.

That’s a nonsense statement, but we most definitely do have them.

Some serious flaws in the logic. For example, submarine launched missiles are not as easy as one might think. Other points are accurate, such as NK could detonate an EMP over their own country and harm SK and Japan. Overall, it’s worth reading and planning for.

“However, before we could all break out the freeze-dried food, and “lock and load,” and do our “molon labe,” etc., 90% of Americans would be dead. They would be wiped out very quickly by starvation, disease, dehydration, and other EMP-induced catastrophes.”

Nope. Starvation, disease, dehydration, and other EMP-induced catastrophes all require time to work, and that is exactly the situation in which preparedness would be helpful. The LDS church would come out best. Conservatives and country folks (but I repeat myself) second best. Urban liberals would be beyond our help for long enough that things would get ugly in and near the cities.

If you’re going to poo poo an idea you’d better get plenty of fiber.

Any nuclear device, when detonated, emits an EMP pulse. It is just a matter of how the designers enhanced the weapon design to emit the desired amount of EMP.

We do have them, they are called nukes. Detonate one in the ionosphere and the energy is conducted as a large electronic flux or EMP.

But you are correct, the Nork would need a reliable nuke small enough to fit on a reliable rocket to get this done. It is not clear he is there yet.

Yet is the key word.

A good point, Kim would have little to lose knocking out his own power infrastructure, but the Chinese might be miffed.

The last sentence is an utter and complete lie. We could do that back in the 1960’s.

Put insul-Fab conductive sheets behind your drywall and use an isolation transformer with line to line and line to ground caps, resistors, and VOC’s good for 150 amps. Your home will be fine.

We take out their satellites.

What about our ASM-135 ASAT missile or other weapon systems we have ?
What about our X-37B ?
We HAVE the capability.
What we've lacked ... is the "WILL" to USE it !
But Trump does NOT have that problem.

Do you think the artillery south of the DMZ that the ROK has, as well as the United States Army has, is just going to sit there and allow Seoul to be destroyed ?
What do you think their FIRST targets will be ?
Our's as well as the ROK's artillery are already 'dialed in' on those North Korean artillery sites, as well as the barracks that house the North Korean soldiers that man those sites?
How many of those north Korean Artillery sites are controlled by electronics (computers) ?

Do you know about CHAMP and its capabilities ?
Do you know about MOP ("Massive Ordnance Penetrator").

Kim Jong-un gets a MOAB suppository.
Then we launch every aircraft in the region that's supersonic, including South Korea's fighters and bombers, to cross into North Korea from all directions, to overfly low level at Mach One PLUS, to bust every piece of glass in North Korea.
Then we firebombs the place to ashes.
The only real transportation system North Korea has is the railroads, so they get blown to smithereens. and that's just the start of day one.

I had to look up VOC ,, to me it’s always been “volatile organic chemicals” aka the stinky stuff in paint ,,, I take it that VOC for you is open circuit voltage..

Their army is huge, and they don’t care about civilian casualties. We can do a lot of damage, but they can use Mohammad Ali’s “rope a dope”. They can take a lot of damage, and we’ll get tired of hitting them. They hope. There are a lot of considerations there, and they can hurt us more than we would like as they lose.

An admiral said it. I forget who but you can look it up:

” as the US military stated in a prior article, there is very little—if anything—the military could do to “knock it down.”

The NORKS can probably field a localized, small version that could knock out, say So Cal. Sure that would be tragic, and a lot of people would die. But we would recover pretty quickly.

China and Russia probably have units large enough—plus the delivery systems to get them where they need to be. That would be a concern, but in that case MAD still exists and they do not have a death wish.

So, its a serious threat. Serious if it happens over YOU. Not full blown dark ages stuff that fill novels.
