Liberal condescension at college - how can I go on?
me | 8/19/17 | me

I work for a college which is very liberal these days, in your face banners and condescending "workshops" open to all frequently, with "diversity credit" (reference below). It's sickening enough. Including having Moochelle Uhbama here the other year.

But since Trump was elected, now we get hand-wringing e-mails about "hatred" and that we need to beware of evil right-wing people who cause violence (LOL).

Got another one today.

Here's a cut from the latest letter:

"As we prepare for the start of the fall semester, the nation is still reeling from the violence that erupted last weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia. Our hearts go out to the victims, families, and individuals whose lives were torn apart by such horrific actions. Organizations built on racism and hate, such as the KKK, have no place in our society. They do not reflect our values and certainly not the values of XXXXXXX.

"Our institution was founded with the goal of providing opportunities for everyone seeking an education. Since the beginning, we have championed peace, tolerance, and equity. Our open doors have helped the college become a richly diverse community of students and employees. We must continue to provide a welcoming and supportive environment.

"Our policies and procedures ensure everyone has the resources needed to be successful, and we do not and will not tolerate discrimination, harassment or hatred in any form.

"We must remain vigilant against hatred. Student Services and the Diversity Committee are currently developing a series of programs for the college community on race and the broader topic of bias. These will take place in the first few weeks of the semester. The college will also collaborate with XXXXX and serve as a host for upcoming XXXXXX events. I hope that this programming will provide a safe space for thoughtful dialogue.

"By working together, we can continue to build understanding within our diverse community."

BARF-O-RAMA.

I want to write scathing letters to this pres who has the temerity to think we all think liberal and that if we don't, we're just mean dangerous bigots. Problem is I need this low-pay PT job, my mother referred me into it so it reflects on her though she hasn't worked there in a while, so I bite my tongue and "deal with it".

What is one to do? Maybe, I just want to gripe and have others listen!

All US universities and colleges declare that all white people, conservatives, christians, and republicans are NAZIs, and must be exterminated!

Are there any colleges in your area which are not liberal? I notice you live in Maryland. St. John’s is supposed to be pretty good. Or at least find one that is not so blatant.

Would you like to borrow my Type O Negative t-shirt that says "Diversity = Destruction"? :)

Since the beginning, we have championed peace, tolerance, and equity.

Ask them how much tolerance was shown by the armed left-wing agitators that initiated the violence.

I share your antithapy for such things. A lot of problems come from elevating a description like ‘diverse’ to the status of a virtue, at the expense of actual virtues such as ‘excellence’ and ‘achievement’. We have probably hit the nadir of academia in the US.

At least at your university the workshops still seem to be voluntary. The university where I used to work was making them mandatory just before I retired in 2008. What a crock of BS.

I suggest printing Damore’s Google memo & sending anonymous copies to your university officials through campus mail.

Subvert the Dominant Paradigm! ;-)

Need some details. What is a PT job? How old are you and what sex? Are you locked into a retirement plan or benefits you can’t do without? What are your credentials? What other opportunities are open to you? Are you a veteran? What are your long-term goals? Can you move? Are you stuck in the area because of divorce/children?

I think many jobs are like being a citizen of the Soviet Union. You have to be very careful who you talk to and what you say. I got reported by a black employee for, I think the phrase was, “politically incorrect speech.” Seriously. The HR manager came to my cube and sat down. Leaning forward so nobody would overhear he told me about it and suggested I never speak to the guy again. What bothered me is, he felt it necessary to warn me; not the guy who reported me. This was at General Dynamics.

Basically, any education job, defense job or tech company job has the potential to get a conservative into trouble or have his career sidelined for politically incorrect views. I am friends with a former fifth grade teacher. He told me the school warned them not to have a Facebook account because if somebody reported something they said as offensive the school would probably have to fire them.

Fortunately, I think the pendulum will swing back the other way, but it won’t swing as far as it was in, say, the sixties.

First thing you should do is send a reply to all, in the spirit of those concerned about violence, Homeland Security has issues a warning about ANTIFA

Yeah, really. But it pains me partly because I myself attended this school back in the day, when things weren’t so sickeningly condescending. We were “diverse” as a matter of course, and nobody minded. Today, some of my friends would be picked out as “special” and asked to host or be an exhibit in one of their endless “diversity forums/seminars”.

This also is a minor tutoring job, low pay, and 15 min away so I can easily care for my son including school for which I can take him and get him (we don’t have buses at our private school), while my husband works his major job. I haven’t been able to get back into engineering so any bit of money to cover daily expenses is good, and as an “employee”, I get the benefits of that - no driving, no tracking gas, no special taxing situation.

If you read/research the illuminati or world government, you will find they took control of the state run, gov run colleges and the public schools... along with the media. Parents who can afford it, send their kids to private schools... still having to pay taxes for the public schools, they choose to keep them out of the indoctrination that goes on in the public education world.

They knew how to control the masses and then tell them we all are not bright enough to think for ourselves... they believe they are so much superior and need to tell us how and when ... their supposedly superiority makes them below par. But you can see that pattern in the clintons and in obama... they, being the superior, have to tell us what we can do and not do... buy and not buy... where to live and how to live..

LOL

I’m in a local college but I’m sure they’d love to do that.

We have short “classes” put by us all the time, including “dealing with LGBT” (as in, making them comfortable) which make me wanna barf. So far, I can ignore them. The only courses I care about are those that are suggested for us tutors, which are mostly silly pap but inoffensive.

If they ever put up a forum/class on “caring for our white students”, maybe I’ll join in!

BTW, the most offensive to me? The EXPLOSION (no pun) in Moslem residents in this county, and consequently on campus both students and co-workers. (Many are nice women, but still, I cringe to think what their men are concocting in their new mosque on my old farm highway.) So, we’ve had LOTS of sickening letters even, regarding the “ban” about our “poor Moslem students” who are so put upon.

I hate to be ignorant, Sal, but what is that?

(Isn’t type O- the only type that is “universal”?)

We have probably hit the nadir of academia in the US.

The average college graduate couldn't define "nadir."

Here's another from right after the election (not from the pres, but some "team" at the school):

We just wanted to send out a quick reminder that you can complete an ASSIST report if you have any concerns about the well-being of one of your students. The results of this past election have left many students feeling scared, vulnerable, anxious, angry and alone. Please use the ASSIST report protocol to report students of concern. You can also use this icon to report bias incidents that students disclose. A member of the ASSIST team will reply to your report to gather information, assist you in helping the student, or follow up with the student directly. There are several resources for students who are struggling including Counseling and Career Services. If a student needs immediate help we also have designated crisis/walk in hours where a counselor will be available. Please use the ASSIST report protocol to help students find the support and resources that they need.

Redirect the emails to your junk mailbox so you don’t even have to look at them.

“I get the benefits of that - no driving, no tracking gas, no special taxing situation.”

I hear that! During our Recall Scott Walker FIASCO in Wisconsin, I managed a Garden Center. And of ALL places (plants are peaceful and will go home with you and beautify your home and yard no matter WHAT your political leanings!) we had a steady stream of customers through there with Anti-Walker signs on their backs, buttons on their shirts, even baseball hats touting their HATRED of our wonderful Governor!

I went out of my WAY to talk to any and all of them, to compliment them on making their politics known 24/7 and how BRAVE they were for doing so.

And I laughed to myself, TOOK THEIR MONEY (of course my solicitousness GREATLY improved sales during that point in time) cashed my paycheck and went about my OWN business.

So, I feel your pain, but if this is working for you and your family for now, keep your head down, don’t let the lunatics get to you, SMILE and cash your paycheck. ;)
