Heres a name which has been getting a lot of play lately in the SJW edition of the news: Michael Isaacson. He popped up recently when John Sexton was exploring the question of whether or not Antifa was mostly comprised of a bunch of happy-go-lucky thrill seekers. Isaacson is a professor at the University of New Yorks John Jay College teaching (if you can believe it) future police officers in the field of Criminal Justice. Recently, the Daily Caller highlighted some of Professor Isaacsons, shall we say unique views on Antifa and non-peaceful protest.
Mike Isaacson, a professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a co-founder of the Antifa organization Smash Racism D.C., promotes political violence. In a series of tweets, he also laughed at dead police officers.
Isaacson shared his support of political violence in an interview with The Hill Thursday, which was pointed out by Far Left Watch. The article, which explores the Antifa movement and its proponents in academia, got a few choice quotes from the professor.
The justification [of the use of violence] is that Nazi ideology at its very core is founded on violence and on wielding power by any means, Isaacson said.
The DC article has plenty more where that came from, but his laughter at the idea of police officers being killed and his casual acceptance of the idea of criminal violence in the name of promoting social justice are certainly unusual for a criminal justice professor. Now, however, the situation has changed. Apparently as a result of the Daily Callers reporting, Mr. Isaacson has been placed on paid vacation. (Which is being described as a suspension with pay.)
Mike Isaacson, a professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice who made numerous jokes about dead cops and openly supports Antifa, has been placed on administrative leave by the school.
The college contacted The Daily Caller Friday with a statement from college president Karol V. Mason to announce that the professor has been placed on administrative leave following TheDC reporting on Isaacsons comments. The report prompted users on social media to participate in a popular #FireMike Twitter hashtag calling for the college to take action against him.
Many of you may be aware of recent statements made by a John Jay College adjunct on social media, television and in the press, he wrote, and proceeded to denounce Isaacsons statements.
I want to state clearly that I was shocked by these statements. They are abhorrent. This adjunct expressed personal views that are not consistent with our colleges well known and firm values and principles and my own personal standards and principles, he continued.
Administrators from all levels of CUNY are weighing in, most using various terms such as abhorrent, appalled, despicable and vile expressions of hate or intimidation. Thats an encouraging sign given what this individual has been feeding into the social media stream from such a lofty platform inside the education community, but it still leaves us with one glaring question.
Why is this man still on paid vacation?
I realize you need to conduct a fair and impartial investigation, but hes been giving quotes to national newspapers and putting out non-retracted commentary on verifiable social media outlets. Hes making jokes about dead cops and explaining why its sometimes acceptable for vigilante justice to be the law of the land. And this guy is teaching students who are destined to go into law enforcement?
Is this just a tenure situation? Is there a teachers union out there which is powerful enough to rush to Isaacsons defense and threaten the school if he is terminated? We dont yet know the answers to these questions but it certainly seems at least plausible that an employer of a professor in this particular field might be able to simply fire him absent even the slightest suggestion that he didnt actually make the comments.
The nations law enforcement organizations who rely on these schools to find recruits should weigh in on the situation quickly. I realize we live in an era of left-wing shock tactics and its hard to pick out which outrage of the day deserves the most condemnation, but this one should really be a no-brainer.
Yep, he has a shot...
...how someone who favors political violence managed to become an adjunct professor at any decent institution of higher learning in the first place...
It’s a lunatic liberal thing. Remember adjunct “Professor” of Constitutional Law, Barack Obama.
Any answer written in his Con Law final exam that promoted the leftist view would receive a passing grade no matter how incorrect or unconstitutional the answer actually was.
the burning question is how someone who favors political violence managed to become an adjunct professor at any decent institution of higher learning in the first place.
Weird response? Why? Radical views are no big deal? Huh?
Read my post and the post to which I responded. It was about tenure.
Adjuncts have no tenure. Adjuncts have no hope for tenure.
the fact the the freaked out pencil neck leftist bastard isn’t a tenure track freaked out pencil neck leftist bastard seems be somewhat beside the point, in view of the fact he is still in a position of some considerable influence over the minds of our kids.
I really don’t give a damn if he has health insurance or not.
I see.
Are you saying he has a bright future in politics?...
I tend to look at ANTIFA as a mix of Clockwork Orange, Helter Skelter and British Hooligans who’s life goals are plain anarchy and chaos. Nothing political at all IMO. Just shit stirring rabid little ankle biters that need a good boot to the face.
Is that the “professor” who was on Tucker Carlson’s show? With the Veronica Lake hair and a neck he must have built with a stack of brass rings?
I was responding to the person who was posting about tenure.
I should have been more clear. He has no expectation of tenure. He has no expectation of tenure track. He will teach a course there but he will not be there for long. He will teach there for a semester but I don’t believe economics is a required course in law school so students aren’t required to take his course.
The guy is more to be pitied than censured - and I am having trouble coming up with any pity.
I’ve had the privilege of instructing police officers as a class in undergraduate gen ed courses, and have nothing but the highest respect for them as students and as officers. I think I learned as much from them as they did from me.
As an aside, when I was in high school 45 years ago and took a vocational inventory, my profession (college instructor) was second from the top, and police officer was second from the bottom. Mutual respect makes the opposites attract, I think.
Antifa is committed to waging war on the First Amendment with violence.
“The seem to casually and flippantly talk about committing violence, but they never seem to think or fear that violence in turn could be visited on them.”
You’re spot on. It’s fun for these wanna-be Che Guevaras to play at commie revolution until bullets start flying in their direction. They don’t realize that their hero Che begged for his life when the Bolivians captured him but Che ended up dead on a slab nonetheless.
Throat lozenges tester?
the guy is to hot at the moment to teach at the university and they are giving him paid time off while his friends within the university system look for a different school for him to teach at when things cool down in a few months.
Where did he get his Masters degree in stupidity? Because, I bet he could teach that.
In answer to your question, someone posted a link earlier today that talks about the president of this college and her affiliation with Eric Holder.
The question of how this lowlife was hired in the
first place is important enough to instigate a serious
investigation which will result in a corrective course
of action, IMO.
Boy, I'd hate to be in their shoes when that happens. They just seem to have no idea what pussy's they are.
See #13.
