That may be the scientific understanding but it is normal for the meaning of words in a culture to develop in ways that are not constrained by prior or academically-accepted definitions. And in the USA Today, pedophilia pretty much refers to adult (usually homosexual male) sexual activity with a minor (under 18 and usually a boy). That is how the term is typically used so there being a different book definition means very little to most of us and frankly arguing for some other definition often sounds like an attempt to over-complicate and take the moral opprobrium away from something horrible and disgusting that is rather simple and easily understood.
What a twisted word salad this article is. But how else can the deviant “community” hope to defend itself from the truth?

He was 26 at the time and there's no excuse for throwing oneself sexually on anyone of any age. But let's stop clutching our pearls so much, shall we? I’m not holding my breath for the Slate headline “How The Gay Community Hurts Young Males By Refusing To Acknowledge Their Massive Problem With Pedophile Homosexuals.”
I really don’t think we should be accepting of PC definitions and that is what that is.
Check the links. Paedophilia is only an incidental part of the problem.
