The animated children’s series Star Wars Resistance may not be the most popular thread of the long-running franchise, but it’s the first in the universe to harbour two gay characters. Disney producers confirmed on Monday what fans had already surmised, that two characters in the series, Orka and Flix – voiced by Jim Rash and Bobby Moynihan respectively – were a queer couple. Executive producers Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge, and Brandon Auman spoke to the podcast Coffee With Kenobi ahead of the launch of the series’ second season. “I think it’s safe to say they’re an item,” Ridge said when...

Federal authorities allege that a former youth care worker at a Phoenix-area facility for immigrant youths sexually abused eight teenage boys, one of several cases brought to light in recent weeks as thousands of immigrant children remain detained around the country. Court documents show Levian Pacheco faces several charges stemming from incidents that allegedly took place between August 2016 and July 2017 at a Southwest Key facility in Mesa. The case was first reported by ProPublica. Authorities charge that Pacheco performed sex acts on two boys and touched six others, all between ages 15 to 17 at the time. "One...

In the most recent edition of that dreadful “Pope Video” series, wherein Jorge Bergoglio plays himself (a non-Catholic humanist), the star of the show (stage name, “Francis”) encourages the following:A lengthening of horizons, a widening, for so many people…Immense possibilities for encounter and solidarity…A place not of alienation … a concrete place, a place rich in humanity…Inclusiveness which respects others for their differences… Is it merely coincidental that the so-called “Pope Video” installment for June – or what gay activists call “Pride Month,” a worldwide 30 day public celebration of homo-debauchery – employs a host of LGBT buzzwords?Maybe. Then...

Schools in Fort Worth, Texas, are reeling after a sex-ed lesson for sixth-graders entailed gender transitions and sexual fluidity. Parents began complaining after their students came home and shared what they’d learned in class. Thirty parents met with educators on April 26 to express their grievances and demand the district make changes to the sex-ed lesson, according to the Star-Telegram. None of the parents had been consulted or told what would be taught in the class.

Everyone loves to hate a pedophile, even if they’ve made him up. Immediately after Kevin Spacey tweeted an apology on Sunday night for allegedly making sexual advances toward a then-teenaged Anthony Rapp in 1986, he was “Milo-ed”—demonized and outcast under the banner of pedophilia—mostly by gay leaders, but also by everyone else (even here at Slate and by Milo himself).

The outgoing president of the second largest Lutheran church body in America lamented the directions taken on matters of sexuality by some member churches of the Lutheran World Federation. The Rev. Gerald Kieschnick of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod told the LWF’s 11th Assembly on Saturday that he feared “many of the sacred scriptural truths which precipitated the Reformation are in danger of being lost.” Kieschnick said that challenges to Christian truth have “first been tolerated, then accepted, and now affirmed.” Christians today, he added, have no “general consensus of broad concurrence, not to mention complete agreement on what constitutes marriage...

More than a dozen Lutheran congregations in Minnesota have vowed to leave the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) after a vote in Minneapolis this summer to allow gay and lesbian pastors in committed relationships to serve as clergy. The fifteen churches will join a new denomination called Lutheran CORE and leave the ELCA, the largest Lutheran denomination in the world. The leaders of Lutheran CORE say the ELCA has moved too far away from the Bible. "Many ELCA members and congregations have said that they want to sever ties with the ELCA because of the ELCA's continued movement away...

My party has slipped its moorings. It’s time for a true pragmatist to lead the country. THE MORE I LISTEN TO AND READ ABOUT “the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate,” the more I like him. Barack Obama strikes a chord with me like no political figure since Ronald Reagan. To explain why, I need to explain why I am a conservative and what it means to me. In 1964, at the age of 16, I organized the Dallas County Youth for Goldwater. My senior thesis at the University of Texas was on the conservative intellectual revival in America....

Have evangelicals abandoned the Religious Right for a more moderate center? Some say yes. ... Mr. McLaren says global poverty, destruction of the environment and increasing violence in the world must be addressed and calls for the church to "change its framing story" and to start trying to change public opinion in these areas. He launched a tour called "Everything Must Change" and is currently traveling throughout the country rallying support. ... Well-known liberal evangelical Jim Wallis called evangelicals the swing voters in '08. Not everybody agrees with his statement, but political analysts do a note a shift. Some religious...

Sitting in sight of her father and grandfather, both Lutheran ministers, Jen Rude on Saturday became the first ordained lesbian pastor since the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America urged bishops to not penalize congregations who violate the celibacy requirement for gay clergy. Several of the more than 100 congregants present wept as the 27-year-old stood before them, a beaming smile drawn across her face. Under church policy, homosexual ministers are required to make a vow of celibacy before they can be ordained. But heterosexual ministers are not, and Rude, who is not in a relationship, refused to make that vow...

California Gay Marriages in Legal Limbo 2 hours, 11 minutes ago By DAVID KRAVETS, Associated Press Writer SAN FRANCISCO - Many of the more than 3,000 same-sex couples who obtained marriage licenses from the city said getting married was among the most joyous events in their lives. But because of legal uncertainty and political controversy, the certificates don't appear to be worth much more than sentimental value at this point. Until the legal fog lifts, businesses being contacted by gays and lesbians seeking new benefits probably won't acknowledge their marriages. Corporate counsels, employment law consultants and human resource departments already...
