Can your 1911 pistol shoot in sub zero degrees?
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 1/30/2018 | J Hines

1911 pistols are some of the best handguns for competitive shooting and personal defense. Some gun folks don’t like to disassemble it, which is a small hiccup. A feature that we don’t hear much about is its incredible reliability due to other manufactures in the market blowing their horn louder.
Do you think your pistol can fire in -65°F?
Youtuber Brass Fetcher froze his Sig 45 1911 pistol for two hours prior to shooting it for the video.

As you watch the 1911 chamber a second bullet after the discharge, you'll notice the frost coming off the hammer.
Very impressive!, tis the reason why 1911 are considered a very reliable handgun to have. Check out the frozen 1911 pistol video here.

My Kimber and Sig both always work, everytime.

You just can’t beat a good 1911.

Why? It is one of the most easily disassembled weapons in the world. My father taught me to do it when I was about ten years old.

No, it’s not.
You can take apart almost any modern semi-auto in seconds, with the push of a button and the turn of a lever. The 1911 requires you to remove bushings and pins.

Well, I can field strip a 1911 in seconds, bushing (singular), pin (singular) and all.

I guess before I posted I should have considered the possibility that there might be many more mechanically inept people out there than I thought there were.

I shot my Springfield 1911 and Ruger 1911 in northern Wisconsin two weeks ago on my land and the temperature was -21, no windchill BS either, both worked find although they were a bit stiff.

I’ve got one Army surplus M1911 that’s tolerances so loose that it almost disassembles by itself. It still is a good shooter for self defense. While on active duty USAF I had to spend a week with a Marine gunny to qualify with the M1911 and in one week went from a fair shooter to an expert. I could disassemble the M1911 with a blindfold with pieces mixed up on a blanket in a minute. The weapon is my favorite and have more than one of them.

Look, I can’t help it if you don’t know enough about the 1911 to be able to efficiently and effectively disassemble one. That strikes me as your problem, not mine.

I used to have two, prior to the tragic boating accident.

One was WWII vintage, manufactured by Remington Rand typewriter company in 1943. The other one I suppose was technically a "1991" - a Colt Commander.

I’ve been shooting them for over 30 years, and have owned four of them.

If you think the 1911 is “one of the most easily disassembled weapons in the world” than you have ZERO experience with any other modern handgun.

But, you keep being you.

Prior to the tragic boating accident I owned at least four modern (semiautomatic) handguns: an FNX-45, a Taurus 9mm, a Ruger 9mm and a two Ruger .22LRs (oh, wait, that makes five, including the ones I cannot remember right now).

None of those weapons are as easy for me to disassemble and clean as my 1911s [were].

1. To be fair, NOBODY can disassemble a Ruger MarkII. It’s theoretically impossible and has never been done. Stephen Hawking is in a chair because he attempted it.
2. THE FNX-45 disassembles by rotating a lever. Same as SIG P225/226/228/229. This is probably the simplest disassembly routine out there. I can think of no other disassembly which is quicker or more simple.
3. Not sure of which Taurus 9mm, but the legacy series uses the Beretta action, which requires that you push a button while rotating a lever. Almost no slower than the SIG/FN action.

None of the modern semi-autos require the removal of a bushing or the removal of a pin. By putting the MarkII on the list, you’ve guaranteed that at least the 1911 isn’t the slowest.
