EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska (CNN) - Defense Secretary James Mattis said the Pentagon is in "close alignment" with the Department of Homeland Security with efforts to utilize military bases to house undocumented immigrants along the southern US border.
The Department of Homeland Security has "come to us asking us to build temporary camps on two of our bases," Mattis told reporters on board his plane at the beginning of a trip that will take him to Alaska, China, South Korea and Japan.
"We are in a logistics support response mode," with DHS, Mattis said, adding that "details are still being worked out" with respect to how the Pentagon's role in the operation will play out, while likening the response to the Defense Department providing housing to Vietnamese refugees rescued at sea in the years after the Vietnam War and for victims of hurricanes and other natural disasters....

Defund DHS and threaten to disband.
Aleutian islands
House them. That’s a trap.
House my shiny metal @ss....send them back to their houses.
This is a great idea and long overdue. Process them there then ship them home. Perfect.
Alaska would be perfect...no one to threaten them there but the bears.
Immigrants can buy their own houses.
What does DHS want to do with illegal alien invaders?
Because I don’t see any need to house them at all.
Media is going to say theyre being held in concentration camps like the Japanese Americans were held during WW2.
What’s the alternative? Go back to catch and release? No thanks! This is a great idea.
Sheriff Joe’s tents work for me!

I imagine a solution to the problem, where each advocate for open borders may surrender their citizenship to an illegal border crosser, and then leave the country. One for one swap. Eventually the problem will solve itself.
So now they are gonna get military base passes? How is that going to work? Pool access? Food?
They have to be processed and THIS IS WAY BETTER THAN CATCH AND RELEASE.
We just became eligible for those several years ago but we haven’t used them yet.
There are dozens perhaps 100’s of empty military bases all over the USA. Some of them still have WWII style barracks. Ft. Picket in VA is one. The ones in this plan are closer to the Mexican border.
Haha and that’s near Fairbanks Alaska! Haha!
No Central American criminal would ever want to go there. It’s too dam cold. During the Summer the Sun almost never sets and during the Winter the Sun almost never rises. Haha!
The threat alone would strongly discourage people coming over the border.
Brilliant move!
Love it!!!
I would like to know where the heck they come up with 7 to 10 K to pay a human smuggler to get here? Crap, that’s a lot of money for those $hithole Central American countries.
Yes, I agree that it’s way better than catch and release, but why do they have to be processed?
Why the hell does such a law exist?
Turn them the f*** around and send them back to wherever the Hell they came from, and build a very big damn wall to prevent this sh*t in the future.
We do not owe our country to anyone.
If were gonna feed and house them, put them to work. It will look good on their resume when they are back in Honduras.
