After Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ ouster, questions arise over small businesses’ political stands
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | July 1, 2018 | Mae Anderson, The Associated Press

Taking a political stand — like asking a White House press secretary to leave your restaurant — can be polarizing and risky. So experts say an owner who decides to act should do so with forethought and civility.

The Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia, has become internationally famous since ousting Sarah Huckabee Sanders over last weekend. The owner had consulted with employees, who said Ms. Sanders made them feel uncomfortable. It was an on-the-spot decision, and led to condemnation by President Donald Trump, an onslaught of negative Yelp reviews and global media coverage.

Under federal law, restaurants and other businesses can not discriminate based on age, race, national origin, religious beliefs, gender, disability, pregnancy or veteran status. But other issues are fair game (thus the sign “No shoes, no shirt, no service"). Whether it’s worth it is another matter....

You can discriminate, and you can be discriminated against.

Colbert and the other idiot comedians think this action was ok.

Can you imagine what would have happened, if Valerie Jarrett, or any Obamabot, had been kicked out of a restaurant????? Let’s get real I think we all.know what the reaction would have been.

Except that’s not what happened. The owner asked her staff if they wanted her to kick Sarah out and only after they told her to kick her out did she do it.

That is not a measure of a strongly held political stance.

The Red Hen incident has served a great purpose by exposing the pettiness of the left. Time to fry some other fish and let the Post-Gazette fret over the irrelevancies.

“The owner had consulted with employees, who said Ms. Sanders made them feel uncomfortable.”

Which is why they followed her party to the next restaurant and continued to harass them. Yeah, that’s the ticket! (Jon Lovett)

None of us really know her state of mind because we weren’t there and don’t know her. But she did it, and she’s the boss.

I’m all for the pink-hatters publicly shaming conservatives.

Payback will come next November.

An act of hate, but should be no LEGAL repercussions. Publicity wise is another story. I haven't been in Lexington VA in at least 15 years, and may never go there again, but if I do I won't darken the door of that restaurant - providing it's still I business. From what I read about it other then the exercise of snowflake hate, I probably wouldn't have eaten there anyway.

That’s A BS story. The owner is a cousin of anti Republican/GOP/Trump nutbag leftard acrtess meryls Streep.

She did this WILLINGLY, ENJOYINGLY AND without any remorse.

I’m still confused. If I understand the Democrats’ “Red Hen Doctrine,” if I own a restaurant it’s OK for me to refuse service to an employee of a Democrat politician. And I can chase the person or their dinner party down the street.

So does that mean I can use a fire hose to get them out of my front door, and then use dogs on leashes to chase them? I thought that was something that was not allowed?

That all sounds bad to me. Democrats have gotten me so confused!

Disagree with a liberal who has the power of the law and watch how fast the nanny agencies are contacting you. Just look at Joe The Plumber vs Candidate obama for reference.

Irrelevant to the point I made.

Only AFTER her staff told her they wanted her to do it.
