A Red Flag Law Won’t Prevent Another Massacre
American Greatness ^ | 8/9/2019 | Sebastian Gorka

Yes, America has a problem.

And no, red flag laws will not stop the next mass shooting.

Nor is “mental health” the heart of the matter.

I am an American by choice. My pride in being an American today is a function in part of choosing to be a citizen of the freest and greatest nation the world has ever seen, and although I may not have been born or raised in America, I am familiar with our history and our cultural heritage.

As a result I know that not too long ago, in living memory, gun culture so universally permeated American society that it would be totally normal for young boys to bring their .22-caliber rifles or single-barreled shotguns to school with them, keep them in their lockers, and use them on the way home to bag small game—even in California, one of the most anti-Second Amendment states in the nation today.

Yet children didn’t open fire upon one another in the corridors during recess or compile “murder lists” with the names of classmates they wished to kill. So the presence of guns per se is a red herring and tells us nothing. Not to mention the fact that you can kill far more people than either the Dayton or the El Paso murderers combined simply by stealing a truck—in one case, more than 80 innocent people in less than two minutes—without one large-capacity magazine.

Well of course not. That’s not the point.

Gorka should explain this to Trump. Face-to-face if he hasn’t already.

Say what you want about Red Flag laws.

But I think they will reduce mass murder.

All these guys were bat shit nuts. And everyone that knew them knew that. Not just the progressive school marm down the street.

But there were no mechanisms to prevent what everyone knew they were going to do.

But such laws come at great penalty to liberty.

it actually makes it more likely.

who will go in for mental health care knowing they will nab their guns?

many states already have laws to address this..

Bat shit crazy or not, I don’t trust the government with this power.

Period..

I’d rather take my chances with an occasional nut than a bat shit crazy gun grabbing commie in the white house. unfortunately Trump won’t be president forever.

Who goes in for mental health when they have set plans in motion to kill people?

The only way to gauge the success of a red flag confiscation would be to see how many later commit murder using another method.

Homosexals are now allowed to marry and adopt children. A therapist who has a problem with that can not get the endorsement of the American Associaton of Family Counselors, therefore, excluded from billing several major insurance companies. You better get some blue flag checks to go with those red flags or you will get a flag on your play.

You may be right, I too believe these policies could catch some. For example the Dayton shooter’s mom reported him to authorities. But it is not clear what went wrong. She was likely told that there was nothing they could do, that would change with these red flag policies in place. But Gorka also has a valid point, if the police do not follow up with a mental health review and setting up an isolation from ALL WEAPONS, then they share liability with the man for his subsequent violent behavior.

I do not believe as a society we have the nerve to do this right, but with the above and a meaningful means to counter the damage this policy will do to our individual freedom in the event the law is applied in error. We hen it should by tried on a small scale.

No law can change the heart and mind of a killer. That’s something only child or a leftist would believe.

Red flag laws, incremental gun confiscation, then total citizen disarmament.

After that it’s genocide by government. Democide!

Government is evil and this is just the beginning.

Frankly I’m sick of this game. Some dem crazy shoots up something then the dem pols and their operatives in the media start in with gun control BS then we have to fight back again against something we didn’t even start. The gun grabbers want to punish everyone but the bad guys. If that isn’t the definition of insanity; I don’t know what is.

Round and round and round we go until America splits in two. I guess the only real question is if there’s a civil war first and who keeps what. What will two America’s look like once everyone realizes we can’t coexist any longer and the divorce is imminent?

California will definitely be spit in two. Then the question becomes how to relocated millions of people to their new ideological land. I think we’ll need more moving vans for sure. Oh wait! The dims plan on killing us so they can take it all and become the new Venezuela or Norte Meheeco. I hope the dims like living under drug cartel rule.

From what I read her lawyer said that she called, didn’t give her name, and asked if she could do anything because she felt he was to immature.

It’s only a Way Station on the road to confiscation.

I favor red flag laws with checks and balances. My brother in law committed suicide via an auto in a garage carbon monoxide.

My father-in-law after his 3rd heart attack a few years later complained of the pain and depression told my wife and me while we were visiting that if it got worse he would use his revolver to end his life. Suicide via a handgun is a significant source of firearms deaths. When people discus suicide, they are more likely to take their life. My wife and I talked to her father extensively to explain why his life mattered. We also did an intervention to remove his revolver from the house and put it in my gun safe.

Because of this experience, I favor some red flag laws. Mostly to prevent suicides, but for others as well. Yes there van be abuses and yes a police confiscation can be a dangerous confrontation.

Red flag laws are unconstitutional on their face. They will do nothing to stop shootings like the last three because its highly unlikely they were organic in nature.

Not only killers, but many of these shooters go in with the intent of committing suicide.
