Yesterday morning, President Trump tweeted that Puerto Rico is one of the most corrupt places on Earth. An island liberal news radio station, NotiUno 630, put up a question on their Facebook page. The answers will surprise you. Those answering "SI" are twice of those answering "NO" (1621 to 741 as of 12 Noon today). I have translated the comments into English and they'll appear in the Comments section below.
The question was: "SOUND OFF: Do you think that Puerto Rico is "the most corrupt place on Earth", as President Trump has stated?" Read below...
Nei Solis: PR is not to blame for the attitude of some people. Because if theres corruption, the ones who dont take the money are the actual Puerto Rican people. We are all not the same.
Chayanne Cruz: Truly, the President does not offend - he is correct! Im not a big fan of his but I gotta give it to him - Puerto Rico is an island of corruption.
Luis Santiago: With these politicians we have here, be it Red (Pro-Commonwealth Party) or Blue (Pro-Statehood Party), they contract people so that the contractors give them a % of the contract. Trump is right!
Julio Moreno: Of course it is! Why dont teachers and students here have the same things that they have in US classrooms? Because our local govt receives the money from the fed govt and we never receive it!
ISaint Corlo: Of course it is! We are 20 years behind!
Santos Perez: We must thank Trump who dared to say it! Past Presidents knew and they just looked the other way.
Edgardo Torres: The politicians who lie to the people - yes - they are corrupt. But not the islanders themselves.
Gonzalo Tubens: When Trump says it, its because he knows and has seen something.
Karlos Medina: Of course it is! They should audit us so that they can see for themselves!
Jaime David: Puerto Rico, No. The politicians we have voted in - Yes.
Rafael Munoz: Without a doubt! Political Corruption is already CULTURE!
Jose Luis Pagan: Hes the only one who has stated the truth and the truth hurts.
Alexander Mercado: Decades of Corruption and ineptitude are the consequences of what we are living under. This is a reality, whether you like it or not.
Raul Vazquez: Not the most corrupt, but certainly in the Top 5.
Luis Alexis Soto: And those of you commenting are accomplices of corruption and you will be voting for the same parties expecting different results.
Wilson Ocasio: He is talking about the govt, so it doesnt bother me that hes telling the truth. Thats why we got rid (of Ricky Rossello).
P.S. I have also ‘screenshot’ all of the replies in Spanish that I’ve translated (for my records).
Ping.
Yesterday I heard Shemp Smith saying that POTUS Trump is lying about the amount of Money that FEMA has given to Puerto Rico while he was hyperventilating about Money from FEMA being redirected to the Southern Border.
Thanks
I saw that segment and Shep was hysterical. I don’t blame Trump for stopping all aid or federal funding until the island politicos sort themselves out first.
I would disagree with Trump that Puerto Rico is the most corrupt government in the U.S. The corruption in Puerto Rico is amateur corruption because they get caught. The professional corruption is in DC and New York and Chicago and all the other cities and states where they steal like crazy and get away with it
Damn right we agree with Trump. The entire island is held hostage by the political class of both parties.
Puerto Rico Ping! Please Freepmail me if you want on or off the list.
The government of Puerto Rico has been running a Ponzi Scheme for years.
I lived in Latin America for years in the Army and traveled to a number of Latin AMerican countries. The call it The Mordida. The Bite. It just a matter of course. It doesnt bother them because they accept it. Like we accept taxes. In a way they are better than we are. The dont even try to deny it. We pretend the USA isnit Like that. The last three years have been a serious wake up call to many AMericans because they are just now realizing how delusional we have been. In a way our corruption is even more insidious because our middle class pretends it doesnt exist. At least they are honest about it. Moreover, look at their GDPs. Overall their corruption dwarfs ours even though they are all 100% invested. Everybody gets a turn at the bite. Here our GDP is so much larger even though only the wealthy get their beaks wet the amount involved dwarfs theirs.
If you measure by how much gets to the people, Puerto Rico wins hands down.
If you measure how much money the politicians steal, then yeah, NYC and DC.
Robert - Thanks!
cll - De Nada!
What does he have to do with Pweird-o Reek-o?
"I swear that dogfish was a meter long if he was an inch!"
heh heh heh heh...
Last night I heard an update on funds for PR. The report said over $90 billion claimed by Trump. A little more than $40 billion reported approved by Congress. A little more than $10 billion actually received by PR. So where is the roughly $30 billion missing between Congress and PR, and where the heck did Trump get his $90+ billion figure??
As I asked in my previous comment, what has happened to the $30 billion approximate that has not been accounted for that fits in the space between what Congress has authorized and what it is reported that PR has actually received. Indeed I would like to know if any of that $30 billion HAS been redirected to our Southern Border. If it has then Trump should stop pushing false figures like $90+ billion.
Yes, there is a lot of corruption in various big cities. I have been observing local govt. in DC for a number of years, and a number of thefts and scams have been caught by the people, the perpetrators arrested, and are now doing time. So one thing I was wondering DD, were you referring to DC federal government, or to DC local government. I think major city scams are caught fairly often as there is a well educated, suspicious group of citizens who try to keep their eyes on this kind of thing. Currently the longest serving Council member, Jack Evans, is in trouble and his been kicked off the Presidency of the Metro (subway) board, and has lost his Chairmanship of the city’s Finance committee. This bit of drama still has more things to happen. If you Google his name, I’m sure there is more detailed information which will give you an idea of the local city corruption. For issues at the Federal level, you could Google, Trump’s DC Hotel problems.
“Gonzalo Tubens: When Trump says it, its because he knows and has seen something”
Regarding this quote from the article, it is well known that you have to deal with crime bosses and do other shady things to get any kind of work done in NYC. I’m sure that Trump has seen and knows a lot. Trump has gotten into trouble for failing to pay for a lot of work that was done on his various projects.
