Well, the dolls weren’t anatomically correct, but you still could tell that Ken was a guy.
And we knew Ken was Barbie’s boyfriend.
I think they are intentionally creating dolls which give us no clue as to whether they are male or female. They are making their political statement.

Boys’ dolls wear helmets and carry guns. The majority of them are 54mm scale. Girls dolls wear dresses and have hair that can be combed. Any questions?
